Artosis' thread on the [NamE] clan house
Seeing that video really inspired me because they care so much about something they love do that they'll invest almost everything. But for Koreans it can be applied to anything; singing, breakdancing, cell phone production, etc. I feel a lot of Korean pride when I watch that video because that's what we are, we might not be creative at all but through just hard work we can take something and just make it that much better.
Indirectly because of playing SC my Korean got so much better. Four years ago I really sucked at my Korean but watching SC live and wanting to talk to Koreans on B.net really wanted me to learn. Really I learned a lot through dramas and variety shows, and playing SC for me motivated me not to just get better gameplay wise, but also to be able to have fun playing with Koreans as well (and to play with them without getting raped you have to be at least somewhat good duh).
So that what SC means to be, one of many representations of what being an actual Korean means to me. I've been sucking lately, like I lost all my 1v1's in a month span =P (and hardly playing 4 months prior to that). But with SC as it is with anything else, if you work hard enough at what you do, it just seems like you'll get something more than what you started with earlier.

i don't have time to learn a new RTS, I just play for an hour every now and then and move on
same reason i still play dota
and DDR
and any fighting game: don't have to learn anything new

I'm Korean as well, though born in the US, and similar stuffs has happened to me. My Korean's improved, I've started talking to and making more Korean (fob) friends, and It's sort of reconnected me with Korean culture indirectly.
I loved BW way back when when I was in like middle school or something...I think that was a year or two after BW came out? But I never really got into it, and I never got past playing on maps like Challenger or Meltdown and the like.
I heard about the pro scene from my friend's roommate's boyfriend, who is a university exchange student from Korea. I think he showed me a July game on Tau Cross where he raped the guy with mutas. That sort of got me interested and I played a bit more...but got owned handily.
Then the GOM Star Invitational came on. I watched every game, started lurking on TL, and started playing seriously.
At this point, I still play because first off, it's fun. Second, the pro scene motivates me to keep following it. It is so active and competitive; having players to look up to and who are so willing to dedicate themselves so fully to the game really keeps the game relevant for me. I also think SC is one of the most difficult and deep games to pick up and get good at; there aren't many, if any, games out there anywhere near like it. It's a one of a kind game; it can't be beaten.

Cause every time I sit in front of the PC with the intention of playing I remember how I felt the first time I was those drones and svcs (yes it was a TvZ) mine that blue shit and I thought "Wow this just might be better than AoE!". Cause it challenges me to my limit every game. Cause I learn new things almost every game I play.
But most of all cause playing SC is uber fun!

pretty much every other computer game i've gotten bored with, starcraft has been giving me something new for a long time
also, back in high school when the game was pretty new, a lot of my friends and i would play against each other, so i guess it just stuck since then (we still play random b.net games)
i played CS a lot but got bored and reached a point where to get any better i'd have to try a lot harder and just didn't have the desire, starcraft has never had that point for me
plus, i get to spend time on a great site like TL instead of gotfrag! woo!

Because I am addicted to computer and games. And I've been playing SC so long now that I feel if I stop for too long I lose all my skills from all that time and my life has going to waste. i dont play 1v1s. i only play ums and 3v3 hunters because i hate iccup and i dont wanna play random ppl and all the ppl that i used to play with dont play anymore.

I don't 1v1 either just for the fact I have lost motivation of getting good at this game. I rarely play ums either but I don't mind it. Nowadays I login to b.net maybe 3-4x a week to game any team game (non fmp) just so I don't lose my newb skills. Although I know I'm really not gaining much skills playing pubby team games I just play for the enjoyment of knowing there's other people out there still trying to have some fun team games.

yeah. there's something about playing with a group of friends that makes the game more fun. play a match with some obs, then talk about it, repeat. not the same with iccup or bnet hackers/bm. i've always liked 2v2 more than 1v1 anyways.
at least i know one thing: if some friends wanna play SC "for old time's sake" (aka they probably havent played in 5 years), i know i'll probably beat them. haha.

Because I find the game fun. I dont care that I can barely get to low D+, and I dont care that I play just one game a week. Should I stop playing because the game is old, or some retards go " OMG COMPUTER GAMES ARE FOR NO LIFE NERDS HAHAHA"? Im having fun whenever I play it, and its all that matters to me.
