I have an Earth Space science exam in 2 days and the course is literally just about memorizing terms. There probably about 1500+ definitions that I have to know for this exam. I know I won't be able to memorize them all but I still am not sure how I can even begin this task.

SO bassically I need to memorize a very very very very very large amount of information in a very very very small amount of time. Any suggestions on how to do this?

man 2 days is doable!
For first semester I had a final and had to memorize like 500 terms total and did it in 7 hours total and managed to get a 90 (the only good course for me XD)

The problem with that is I could forget them after reading the next 20, it doesn't seem very efficient.

flash cards

you can use virtual ones if you want, pretty sure you could adapt anki for this

I memorise things visually. So I'll remember the title of a section, then see on the page how many lines (definitions) there are and roughly how long each one is, also how may per sub-section. Then when it comes to remembering it I imagine I'm staring at the paper again.

But I haven't met anyone else who does it in this weird way.

Just keep writing the definitions out over and over until they stick (by hand, don't type).

Oh yeah you could try flash cards too, I've never used them but according to peers they do work.
No I'm never serious.

For me, I would write them out over and over.

whatever method you use, its the repetition thats the key. The more times you go over it, the better your chances

create some sort of mental game that ties the word with their concept together. it doesn't even have to be connected in any way--it could even relate to starcraft.

Try relating each term to a funny event and place it as a story... For example if you want to memorize your alphabets in order, create a simple yet weird story to help you remember...

[A]nna the [A]norexic, had giant [B]oobs, and a [C]ock, however her [D]ick wasn't huge enough to be in the [E]xtreme [F]ucking contest...etc...

Edit: you dont have to memorize the phrase, but just make sure the list of things that went on is easily memorizable.

O and just for interest sake, about how much money would a 7 decimal scale cost?

Also since I know I am a little bit behind, I am going to stay up all night. Will this have bad reprocussions on my test scores?? Anyone know from experience?

Use them in sentences over and over again. Make up an imaginary conversation where you use the terms, do this several times.

Or pretend you're teaching them to someone else. Make a pretend lecture, give examples of the terms, explain them a little bit. This is how I study for exams.

I hope this doesn't derail the thread, and if it does, I will give nai $5.

Anyways, I have a similar dilemma.

I am now taking an art history class, a large portion of which is memorizing works of art and the person that created them/their historical significance. Now, obviously flashcards would be awesome, but I simply don't have the money/whatever to print out thousands of color images. So I was wondering if there was a way to make virtual flashcards that use a picture instead of text (the professor provides us with .jpg's of all of the works of art in question) on one side? If not, have any of you had a class like this before? And if so, how did you go about it?

Class just started though, so I won't have exams for a few weeks yet.
