Good day.

I was just wondering if any of you Zerg players use Parasite in your ZvP play.

I'd like to try incorporating Parasite use into my own play and would like to have some tips from the more experienced users.

I'm basically asking how many queens you build and at what timing. Your casting technique and what hotkey you use for the queen(s), if any. Protoss reaction to Parasite, ideal targets, where you keep your queens, or any other useful information or tips.

I've noticed in testing that queens charge 75 energy in 100 seconds, so if you have 3 or so queens you could keep the Protoss ball parasited no problem.

Also, I noticed a little trick which makes using Parasite easier. Say you have some queens. If you have vision of the ball via a Parasite you can now clone your queens like you clone scourge. Then you can issue a shift move command to the queens so that as soon as they've cast Parasite they automatically run away to some corner of the map to recharge energy. This way the queens receive minimum damage and free your APM to be used somewhere else.

If you could post replays of your Parasite usage I would be most grateful.

There is restore in TvZ but it costs 150 150 to research it I believe and costs like 100 medic energy, worth the parasite cost imo.

Not as useful as Ensnare.

At the very most, you'll stop a unit from entering battle if he doesn't want you to see unit-composition. Or he wouldn't mind and you just get to see his army. Casting it on Shuttles isn't as useful as you think. Even if you do cast it on an Archon or Templar or something, he can just move it aside and bring it to battle right before it, meaning you get vision of a lonely corner of a map with just that unit.

I suppose before Ensnare is researched, you could Parasite something, but honestly, if you want to use Queens, just stick with Ensnare.

I'm mostly interested in ZvP.

In ZvT you can use Parasite to synergize with ensnare, but otherwise Parasite is almost unusable due to restoration.

If medics couldn't cure parasite it would be almost broken, I think.

Yes, but I think Parasite offers so much more than other means of scouting. The main reasons to use Parasite are

1. Knowing the movement of the ball ALL the time just by looking at the minimap.
2. Knowing Protoss army composition ALL the time. This gives you time to prepare a counter unit composition.
3. Parasite synergizes with mutalisk sniping. I personally think eliminating HTs is one of the most important things in ZvP. You can detect HT numbers and HT positions accurately and thus eliminate them before they cause trouble.
4. Once you get your first parasite planted casting becomes safe and easy. It will become increasingly difficult for Protoss to stop the infection.
5. The Protoss suffers psychological damage.
6. Cheap cost for all of the above. Only 300/300 and a little APM for every 100 seconds.

I don't really know though, I assume it should be amazing against drop/corsairs/ht/dt/archons and whatnot.

I still can't figure out why it wouldn't be awsome especially if protoss is reaver/sair

it does seem kind of useful if you ensnare one of their corsairs or their shuttle. Of course, to get that queen you have to give up a lurker or some scourge + lings.

If you just want to use queens for the parasite you shouldn't need more than 2 at any time, at least in my experience. Good targets are archons, HTs, shuttles and especially observers. If you have the chance parasite DTs, but this is very unlikely. Observers are really great since you want to be picking these off and they're relatively slow and expensive to replace. If you parasite a HT or an archon you can't expect you're opponent to "just move it aside and bring it to battle right before it, meaning you get vision of a lonely corner of a map with just that unit." That would be both bothersome and stupid. Sending a high-value unit away from your main army and leave it vulnerable to being picked off is the last thing you want to do with a unit that the enemy knows where to find.

Observers are by far the best units to parasite IMO, since the protoss will be forced to either send it away from his army on a scouting mission, netting you an easy scourge, or to simply allow you to see his army. When you parasite an observer the observer becomes just as much worth to you, if not more, than to the protoss and he will therefore often have to kill it. That's cost-effective!

LOL

yea a parasited unit is pretty much a dead unit or helpful to you. You either scout his army for the units life length or he ends up sending it on a suicide mission or away from his army .

I think parasiting templar has a lot of potential because they are easy to kill with speedlings since they lag behind the army, and are also very damaging to you and expensive. However, do parasited templar produce unparasited archons?

Also many times several templar lag the army, which would make for a lot of potential kills.

If you have queens while waiting for ensnare to research (i usually make 2-3 queens in the off chance i take that plan of attack), then you could definitely throw down a parasite or two. While ensnare is the better ability (especially if you're scouting properly with your ovies), parasite can be a valuable tool in discovering enemy army composition and location. If nothing else it will cause him to outcast or kill the parasited unit, which is why you should use it on units such as templars, archons, or shuttles.

parasiting a shuttle when fighting sair/reaver could be useful because in those situations you can't have ovies everywhere or else the sairs will pick them off. Having their shuttle parasited forces them to wait/make a new one and/or you see where their attack is going to be and can intercept it.

Yes it does.

I was about to reference Garimto mind-controlling an Overlord for detection but that's a different spell completely.

Anyways, yes it does :p

Just tested it. Parasited templar of any kind morphed with unparasited templar will form parasited archons. The same is true for 2 templar that are both parasited.

What's interesting is that you seem to lose the vision of the morphing archon until it becomes a full fledge archon.
