A tough final table awaited for chipleader Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier to finish his outstanding week at the World Poker Tour Festa al Lago in style. While the final table wasn't an easy one, they proved to be no match to the aggression and flipping-skills of ElkY. An unprecedented final table appearance was the main act of tonight's show.

The least known player on the table, William Mietz, was ElkY's first prey. Mietz calls after ElkY raises preflop. The [9s][7s][4d] flop gets checked by both, and when the [9d] comes on the turn, Mietz checks again. ElkY bets out and Mietz moves all-in for about 1 million chips. After some consideration, he calls with [Ac][Ts], dominating Mietz' [Kd][Th]. A blank on the river meant the first bustout of the evening.

When Adam "Roothlus" Levy shoves it with [Ac][9h], ElkY just happened to pick up a pair of queens. With a Q on the turn and no help for Levy, another one bites the dust and ElkY is up to 11 million chips, while the others have between 1.4 and 2 million! ElkY, being no stranger to big stacks, (ab)uses his powers with pleasure, shoving in with [3s][2s] and stuff like that, winning some blinds on the way. When Nenad Medic happens to pick up a pair of sixes, ElkY makes the call with KJo. One jack on the flop and the medic is gone, with ElkY adding another million to his stack.

3 down, 2 to go. While everything has gone excellent so far, the last two players (Nam Le and Osmin "Oddie" Dardon) proved to be a bit more of a struggle. First Le doubles through ElkY with AJo vs 83o, then Oddie hits the flop with his QJo against A4o. ElkY even loses the chiplead for a while, but manages to regain it the hand after that and expands it when he moves all-in with A4 on a 1.4 million bluff with 9-4 from Dardon on a TT22-board.

It seemed like ElkY's aggressive style finally paid the price, when he shoved all-in after Dardon's reraise preflop. Dardon called with [As][Jc] and ElkY was way behind with his [Tc][2c]. While he hit the flop, the [9s][4s][2s] meant it was far from over, with 2 overcards and nut flush draw for Dardon. The [9d] gave another few outs, but the [3h] on the river meant Osmin "Oddie" Dardon was out of there, leaving ElkY with over 15 million chips and Nam Le with less than 1 million! That's what confidence, world-class poker and running good brings you!

While Nam Le manages to double up twice (AJs vs Q3s and 22 vs 63o), ElkY remains confident and aggressive. With about a 3:1 chiplead, there was nothing to worry about, and when he got all-in with his pocket tens, the [Ad][Qh] of Le meant it all came down to another coinflip. With a [Td] on the flop and no help on turn and river, ElkY wins the tournament, after knocking out all 5 other players at the final table and raking in $1,411,015 and his first WPT title!

Results:
    1st: Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier - $1,411,015
    2nd: Nam Le - $943,215
    3rd: Osmin "Oddie" Dardon - $506,245
    4th: Nenad Medic - $373,010
    5th: Adam "Roothlus" Levy - $266,445
    6th: William Mietz - $186,510

Congratulations on another awesome performance!

I think that picture adequately explains why some people switch from bw to poker.

I think that poker and sc bw actually have a ton in common. Limited information, particular strategies and mindgames that you can use, etc. Good to see that Elky is still playing to win

Elky, Grrr, Rekrul, and Rainkhan all have stated this in interviews that poker, magic the gathering, and starcraft are all very similar.

Poker is really really easy as long as you enjoy playing it.

Even when staring down 8 other dudes over 1.1 million dollars and/or dressed like the Joker?

Yes. If you compare it to just about any game/sport, you have to put in significantly less work to succeed. Of course you have to be more sound mentally because the downswings are tough to take.
