Best solution for you is to go to Fryes and pick up some new ram. I've been running on a 3.0ghz P4 for like 5 years but with nice RAM and GPU. 2gigs of ram t fryes is like 10bucks sometimes lol, not the best but its good enough for you. Make sure the number of pins is compatible with your motherboard first as well.

Seriously, CPU isn't a big barrier to playing most games. For you it would probably only be the ram and gpu that are hurting. I also not sure that the gpu you have now supports shader 3.0, or even 2.0, which will actually prevent you from playing the newest games.

if you can install the OS yourself and all the software related stuff yourself, the putting things in shouldnt be hard or take longer than 10mins. Maybe 20 if youre being all organize and stuff.

I recommend a ram upgrade. Ram is getting cheap nowadays, so upgrading to 2gb shouldn't cost you any more than $50. If you're patient and shop around, you'll be able to buy 4gb for around $50.

Check out slickdeals.net, they occasionally post RAM deals. If you need the ram asap and saving a few bucks isn't a big deal, try newegg.com.

what I did was pick up more RAM and buy a new AGP card (7800 GS?)

It takes approximately 2 hours for a non techie to build one. And 25 mins is the standard for some one who works in a tech shop.

yeah but his RAM is old as fuck. Anything he buys now hes going to throw away a year later max.
