The day before..
Its Friday about 7AM and me and my friend are getting breakfast and we're about to leave Germany. We took the plane which was late at about 11:20 AM and we arrived in Paris at like 12:40 PM. Even though the stewardess told us to shut down all our electronic devices I took pictures while we were starting. Oh boy.. I love to fly.
When we arrived in Paris at Charles du Gaulle we wanted to go to our hotel first - its obvious, isn't it? Ok, here we go. We wanted to take the train and the metro to get our hotel, but you can only pay the ticket automates with coins and credit cards. The tickets were about 16,20€ and we didn't have that many in coins so we decided to use the credit card of my friend which didn't work because he forgot his secret pin code. I was like "what the fuck"! After being at the airport for like 1 hour now we decided to take a taxi. While we were searching a taxi we found out that there's an airport named Orly! You don't believe that? Here's the proof:
Also notice it says "Buy your tickets in advance, On sale here" -> ORLY?
The rest of the day we wanted to meet up with retsukage but actually he chose to meet up at "Gard du Nord" which is a massive (I'm not kidding here-_-) station. He wanted to meet at a "Relay-Store" when I called him I was right next to one so I thought I'm going to meet him any second, but he wasn't there. After I asked the person selling things there and he told me there are like 12 Relay-Stores in the station I was thinking "You'll never get to see your friend from Californa". After literally 40 minutes of searching we met outside at the Apollo Hotel. We (G.s)NarutO / noob)hot( / retsukage and two friends of him (lurkers)) was walking around, getting some food and talking about whatever we liked to talk about. Paris got some cool buildings..
Retsukage was staying at our hotel this night and we went to bed early because we wanted to stay up at like 5 AM to get to the event as soon as possible.
Day 1 - Awesomeness and failure
The first day when there were like lots of Starcraft matches it was really exiting. We went to the event at like 5 AM by metro and we were like 1 1/2 hours too early. Yet there was already a quiet big line. One of us went to get some food and coke. When it started at around 8AM we were freaking excited about playing Starcraft 2, watching the games and just everything.
Here we go!
Huge banner in front of the building, epic!
Starcraft 2 Area, I guess there were about 300 computers with Starcraft 2
There were a nice area for fan artwork, check this
This is one of the 2 smaller stages
When we went upstairs.. we found that.. the MAINSTAGE
Also, when I was about to watch something on stage 1 I saw Stork and took my chance
Small note here: I also met IdrA but here comes the failure: My camera ran out of battery so the rest of the day I was relying on other peoples cameras. I'll add the rest of the photos from this day later on.
Day 2 - No words
Like the day before we got really early to the event, because we didn't want to wait in a huge line. I didn't mention the 2v2 community tournament yet so I'll do it now. On day 1 we went to the finals in the 2v2 tournament and we got told that we're going to play the final on stage. I was really excited about that as you can imagine. Also the 2v2 tourney gave us the chance of playing Starcraft 2 as long as we want with no limit :-)! Here you go with a few shots of the awesome starcraft finals!
After the - unfortunately - too short finals of Starcraft and the Warcraft 3 finals we got told that we're going to play 2v2 Starcraft 2 on stage (actually they asked if its fine for us, because they wanted to make sure its fine and its better for publicity to show a new game or to be exact Starcraft 2). Well, the plan changed and we went to play one on one on the internet live stream in Starcraft 2. This was the first time for Starcraft 2 to be ever live broad casted.
I'll add another broodwar picture and the rest of the pictures will speak from themselves.
+ Show Spoiler [Oh my god, Party] +
UPDATE (GOODYBAG / STUFF)
More pictures to come, comments please! :D I'll also upload a package of all the photos in full size / quality later.

The girl (not the 2 next to me, these 2 are actually part of PMS (counterstrike proteam)) is ToT)Ore( (Eleonore) and that guy with the mYm shirt is Chosi. He's German, but he's not known. He traded shirts with mYm.Dreiven ( ToT)Dreiven( now hahahaha^^) and got EVERYONE sign it. Yes, I signed it too! :D

It doesn't affect the plane at all... the airplane's electronics are shielded.

But, when they tell you to do something that's ostensibly for the safety of the plane, it's a bad idea to do it (especially in the age of anything strange = terrorism).
If it had been a cell phone, I would have been more annoyed. Those things are actually meant to transmit, unlike say a camera.
For those of you wondering why it matters, the explanation is that a defective unit (held by the passenger) could release radiation on a frequency that is critically important for the operation of the airplane's systems. Even 'shielding' of the airline's components wouldn't really protect it from that.
Note the scene in the west wing where Toby is trying to argue that he should be allowed to use his cell phone because all the plane's equipment is brand new, state of the art, etc... and he's totally wrong (very rare in that show tbh).

Rofl please.
Do you honestly think that if cell phones would really be dangerous they'd let you take them with you? I've been on planes with people who were speaking on their cell phones WHILE THE PLANE WAS TAKING OFF. Sure, it's an asshole-ish thing to do especially with the flight attendant asking you repeatedly to stop, but it doesn't affect the plane at all. And neither do cameras, mp3 players, radio receivers, etc.
Why would terrorists bother to get knifes and such on a plane when they could simply try to smuggle in a few phones AND TURN THEM ON. PAM PAM PAM!!!
|
thats because the terrorists want to crash the plane into buildings not on the runway

PAM PAM PAM!!! Okay now, you have to realize that the odds of the phone affecting the plane are very tiny. Sure, I will admit that. A proper functioning phone won't destroy the plane. But, there is still a tiny chance, and there are hundreds of lives at stake. The odds are probably small enough that they let you have your phones on you, but not small enough that they let all of you have your phones on at the same time. However, to say it 'doesn't affect the plane at all' is not right in a literal sense. Before I posted I ran this by an electrical engineer who works for a company building radar planes for the US government. His role is to integrate the IFF (identification friend or foe) into the E2D Hawkeye... and yes he believes passengers should turn their shit off.

Oh, and Gare du Nord being a massive station: hell yeah! We were late for our train yesterday and desperately run like 2 miles underground to just find the main hall. Thank god we just made it last minute.

awesome pics! could use higher res though for the event place/pros etc zip upload maybe?
as for the cell phones on planes, + Show Spoiler [about cell phones on planes] +as for this whole cellphone on planes thing (unlike others, i'll provide some legit sources..) FCC actually considered lifting the ban in '04 until they figured out there's nothing they really knew about it (see here, pretty short read: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cellonplanes.html)and there were some reports of potential interference. for example, have a read through http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/docs/rpsts/ped.pdfin particular + Show Spoiler [excerpt] +WHILE AT CRUISE AT FL310, THE AUTOPLT MADE AN UNCOMMANDED TURN OF 15 DEGS AT 1/2 STANDARD RATE, AUTOPLT IN TURN RATE MODE. HDG SELECT SWITCH OFF, VOR/LOC TRACK NOT ENGAGED WITH BOTH RMI'S AGREEING BEFORE AND AFTER THE TURN. THE AUTOPLT CONTINUED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY FOR THE REST OF THE FLT. I ASKED THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT AT THE TIME TO DO A PED WALK. SHE RETURNED TO SAY THAT SEVERAL USUAL TYPE OF PED'S WERE IN USE. I MADE A PA ASKING THAT PED'S BE DEPWRED AND WE COMPLETED THE FLT UNEVENTFULLY. I SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED FROM THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT THAT HER HUSBAND (WHO WAS A PAX ON THIS FLT) RPTED TO HER THAT HE HEARD A CELL PHONE RINGING IN AN OVERHEAD BIN AT ABOUT THIS TIME. SINCE I ONLY LEARNED ABOUT THIS LATER, IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN MY LOGBOOK WRITE-UP ON THE AUTOPLT. summary: uncommanded right turn of 15degrees done by autopilot at same time as when a cell phone rang on the plane so it's a possibility but you shouldn't really be too worried. plus there's a whole other issue of base tower jumping @ 800km/h, screwing up the network, although improvements in this area reduced the problems. too lazy to dig up sources for this though.
