Through some of the conversations that have occurred on TL, I know that there are some runners out there. Is there anyone that also enjoys watching / following the college and or professional scene?
Today the NCAA championships are going to be on CBS - which should be a lot of fun to watch. I'm most excited that a kid I ran against in high school made the finals for the 1500 meters - should be really fun to watch him run on tv.
Besides the NCAAs, the olympic trials start the 26th of June and will be aired on USA and NBC which is also pretty amazing.
Anyone else interested in any of this?

Kind of off topic, but on track, should I be running long distances or short spurts to best increase my stamina? I'm also trying to learn how to make fast bursts of speed for basketball, so how should I mix it up? I'm overweight, about 5"8 and 190-195 lbs, and i heard it's bad to run too much wehn you're overweight.

i probably wont watch much. just the 800m where im cheering for jacob hernandez. but he got disqualified at regionals in the 800 so i guess he won't be at the national meet, but likely the olympic trials. and is the DMR run at outdoor nationals? he'd be on that.
oh and if any duke runners made it i guess i cheer for them too ^.^ but not bother to watch

I don't really know a lot of the 800 guys - but I know that 8 guys between 1:47 and 1:48 should be a pretty incredible race. Hernnadez is running and is the #2 seed at 1:47.18 .
DMR is not on the agenda of races for today, so I would presume it def isn't being ran.

I would follow the scene but I don't know how

I live in Corvallis, Oregon and that's an hour's away from Eugene, so I'll be at the Trials at least

The only way I see running too much being bad for you if you are overweight would fall under the same category of running too much even if you are in shape - if you're body can't handle it it just can't handle it. Most of the time if you are overweight it isn't that you shouldn't run that much its that you can't run that much.
If you are mainly wanting to get better spurts for basketball, cross training would probably be the best. You can run a couple miles a day for stamina but do agility workouts to get your bursts up.

Wow I'm so jealous. Its alway been a dream of mine to come out to Eugene and watch the prefontaine classic. That would be so awesome. As far for running today - its on tv from 1-3 Pacific time on CBS. Just turn in on.

My friend went to the Prefontaine Classic and he saw a few world records being broken (10k if I remember correctly), and he also said he watched a girl run a low 4 minute 1500. Pretty insane. I got a ticket to one day in the olympic trials (June 28th), so I hope that it's a good day
A BUNCH of my friends have tickets to EVERYday which is fucking imba.

Happy birthday by the way

Well I mean like, is there a site like Teamliquid that follows the running scene like this site does for BW?

Yah it is - it is one of my lifetime goals to go to the actual olympics. I'm shooting for 2012 in London, but I don't know if that would be realistic.
As far as the 28th - looks like it should be an okay day. You'll get to see the 800m semis and the the 400M Hurdle finals. The 800 semis for me would be worth it to watch.

Also from your previous post - they had qualifying - so I'm assuming that 1:47 is what he ran to get into the finals.
Full results for all days can be found here:

This was the only Duke person I found:
