Game was done to match the music, obviously. It being a coincidence is highly unlikely. And this, like all other automatic Marios, is done through hours upon hours of painstaking trial and error by devoted people overseas.

Wow really amazing video. I didn't know it was playing different songs until I heard one that sounded vaguely familiar, then it all became clear what it was about.

haha yea I watched this yesterday when it was uploaded. Has 400,000 views in one day so far on nico-video. I was going to make a thread about it with the background of the original video and the fads for each one of these 33 songs (since they basically all have an "internet craze" associated with them in one way or another) but now that it's already made I guess such a thread wouldn't have much utility (and I'm lazy and now I can use this as an excuse to not do the research)
So instead, some quick translations, with their 'source' rather than the performer since translating the performer/creator is somewhat pointless

Sakura - it's like a traditional japanese song but it's in here b/c I think it was used (with these really fucked up tones) as the bgm for when videos were deleted by the site.
*btw Gacha Gacha is the sound for when you rattle shit around, like if you rattle around a door knob, that's the sound you use.
edit: it took the creator 6 months to make. He started making it after the first "kumikyoku" got to 200,000 views. (started on Nov. 3rd 2007)
A lot of these songs were uploaded as full auto mario as single songs, but this is the first one of the entire mix of songs.
