Judging from the last picture I saw of him, he doesn't. He's just reading Wikipedia.

your actually not suppose to stretch bc it doesnt help at all... your just sppose to do like wide-ranging motion which warms up the muscles...thats probably the wrong term but yea...

I've heard light exercise such as a slow jog is pretty good because it alone won't cause any injuries but gets your heart and muscles going a little... but I am certainly no expert. Sounds reasonable enough though.

there is more than one type of stretching, and more than one type of flexibility

you want to do dynamic stretches after or as part of a warmup, before your exercise

you want to do your relaxed stretches afterwards

and static stretching before exercise can be helpful, you just need to know what you're doing and why you're doing it

I don't care what Jibba is saying about stretching not helping prevent injury or what research he cites. He's just, wrong ... In my experiences with soccer and track, especially since track is a more explosive sport you are much likely to injure yourself in the sprints if you don't warm up properly.

However, you can't just stretch cold. You need to warm up by doing some mid-speed jogging for a few laps like 1/2 mile to 1mile depending on how cold it is and then stretch once your muscles are warmed.

Doing _anything_ that has your body move (that includes stretching) prior to an accelerated or stress inducing physical activity does some good. Don't tell me "stretching as injury prevention has been disproved." It doesn't INCREASE the chances of a fucking injury and even if it's benefits are relatively low in the specific realm of injury prevention it DOES help.

Don't speak in absolutes. You will be right more often.

I said warming up is a part of injury prevention and the actual stretching of the muscles does nothing to prevent injuries.

In some cases, it doesn't even improve performance.

The review of the basic science literature suggested five reasons why stretching before exercise would not prevent injuries. First, in animals, immobilization or heating-induced increases in muscle compliance cause tissues to rupture more easily. Second, stretching before exercise should have no effect for activities in which excessive muscle length is not an issue (e.g., jogging). Third, stretching won't affect muscle compliance during eccentric activity, when most strains are believed to occur. Fourth, stretching can produce damage at the cytoskeleton level. Fifth, stretching appears to mask muscle pain in humans. CONCLUSION: The basic science literature supports the epidemiologic evidence that stretching before exercise does not reduce the risk of injury.

We can go on...

I don't care about your literature. Have you ever run a 100 meter dash with absolutely no warm-up in the cold? It would not be a good idea.

I mean when Olympic athletes are dressed in sweats before their race even if it's 80 degrees (thats like 35 Celsius lol? iono) they have a reason for it. It's not that they like overheating themselves, they do it to prevent injury.

Anyway, saying it's proved that stretching is pointless is a very brash statement.

I don't care about Darwin's literature, there's no way man came from monkeys. I don't look like a monkey, so it can't be true.

Yeah, that's what you sound like. You even admitted that you warm up before you stretch, and that's the key component to preventing injury. Stretching does not do much to warm your body up, and in some cases it can actually cause problems. Maybe you should spend less time sprinting and more time reading, because I never said stretching was useless. I said it's useless for injury prevention.

Here you are just fucking stupid. WALK AND PUSHUPS FOR AGILITY OR STAMINA? You need to wear a fucking helmet. Judging from my last picture I'm a fucking cartoon so yeah, I guess you can suggest I read wikipedia from that. Rofl stupid fuck.

Okay so, I'm taking the civil service exam in June, which means if I'm offered employment I'll probably be off to the Academy at some point in the near future, which means I ought to try to do some stuff to prepare beforehand so I don't show up as the only overweight guy.

I'm not at all concerned with strength training; I'm concerned more with increasing my stamina and agility. I don't really exercise, so I'm not really sure where to start.

I know I should stretch before I do anything to help prevent injuries. I should also stretch after I exercise, correct?

So should I just go walk, do pushups, situps, etc.?

stretch AFTER you exercise. stretching BEFORE when your blood isn't flowing and stiff can damage you. but you dno't wnat to go all out either.

the best way to stretch before exercising is to warm up by doing something like light running, or just getting your heart rate up, then doing mild stretches, then going all out.

warm up -> stretch -> main workout -> stretch.

never stretch all out first.

usually, the main limiting factor that holds people back is not all these secondary precautions, but effort, mental willpower and working out hard enough. our bodies aren't inflexible machinery - they're much more versatile than that. it's all about pushing through the burn.

forget special workout plans, and all that. that's micro. if you push yourself hard everyday, and just stick with a plan as simple as cadro one day, muscle toning the next, and just go really hard at it, you will get stronger and healthier. go for the macro, bro.

in lots of things, people aren't for the thing itself, but money, which is their end. your end (a quality product/service) is their means. fuck greedy corporations. sports science in itself is not bad, but money is like a midas touch - it corrupts everything it touches, and the name itself comes to mean something else, rather than what it originally was.
