What i want...
1. I want it to have a good quality sound 2. I want it to have a lot of space and be cheap 3. I want the battery life to be a lot 4. I want to carry movies, photos, music, etc
Questions about the Ipod... Does Ipod have to convert a lot of videos to put it in??? Will all music work for the Ipod? *Only Ipod Owners Question* Is the Ipod 80GB worth it?
Question about the Zen... Is the Zen ever gonna make new ones? its always the 30gb and 60gb same looking
Question about the Zune... Is the new Zune really good and is it worth it???

flac is a music format that is of very high quality(no loss of quality whatsoever) each song tend to be like 20-50mb.
kewl format that i download my favourites in

coming from an ipod owner, trust me when i say ipod suck. limited music formats, limited features.
zune sucks as well, according to my friends.
zen is better, but i cant think of suggestions on the top of my head right now

high quality, but oh so unnecessary for 95% of the music listening population.

ya its a total audiophile format.

I'm happy with my iPod, and if you want to customize it/make it more like a portable harddrive you can just install rockbox and use that instead of apple's software.
Don't think it really matters TBH though. And mp3 player is just an mp3 player. Only thing you should care about it are battery life, storage space, and physical size.
high quality, but oh so unnecessary for 95% of the music listening population. And meaningless without equally uncommon and expensive speakers/headphones. 40 mb for a 3-5 minute song sounds like you're not getting much variety in one harddrive. Shit, 20 songs per gig? I'm gonna have discographies that would take the entire space of an mp3 player.

iPods are inferior to other mp3 players in almost every single category unless you're getting a Touch, which is completely unique.
Zune 80 >>> iPod Classic in: Sound Quality Screen Size Features Earbuds (ships with REAL ear buds) File types supported
Classic >>> Zune in: Slightly longer battery life Better software
The thing is, you can modify the Zune so it works with any software, including iTunes.
What kind of size are you looking for? For a flash mp3 player, I'd go with iRiver. It's a shame they don't make hd mp3 players anymore. :/

check out some of the samsung mp3 players, they arent bad.

If you don't know what to buy then it may be worth asking yourself what you want out of a portable music player :
- how would you like to use it (periodic, light use, heavy use, extended periods, travel, commuting?) - does size matter, want something tiny and easy to carry around more than features and storage? - features? Do you want or need it to double as a portable storage device? Do you care about carrying photos or movies around on it? Do you want it to play games or do other things? - battery life, how important is it to you?
The great beauty of the market is that it gives you choice. Asking "what should I get?" is like asking what race you should play in Starcraft or what build order is the "best" - there's no straight answer. All you'll get is fanboys voting for what they like best, but that may not be what is best for you. I'd say give it some thought.
A better way to shop for things, too, is not to say "I want a $250 mp3 player", but to say "I want an mp3 player that can do (A,B,C)" - what are my options? You may find that you don't need to spend $250 to get exactly what you want.

Do you want to watch movies on it or do you just want to use it as a portable HD?
And how big do you want?
CNET's best HD mp3 players

Its pricey, but the Archos 605 portable media player is a great choice- several of my friends have one, and its music and movie quality is excellent, as well as abundance of HD space.

iPod. Lots of people here are anti-iPod but to each his own. It's about personal preference. I love the interface and to me it's reliable. It's also the most stylish by far (as well as the most common unfortunately).

iPod only plays H.264 and MPEG-4 videos - if you want to play anything else you'd have to convert it with something like SUPER.

anyways, of all the mp3 ive owned, i think the black zen micro version 2 non-video was my favorite... too bad i cant find it anywhere now.. ebay sells it for 130 fucking dollars...

I currently use both an iPod and a Zune, and I think they're both safe products; and as it's already been noted, both will have their fans and anti-fans (sort of like Macs...similar Apple/Microsoft thing). I actually rather like the Zune software, and while I used iTunes for quite some time, I do think I prefer the Zune's software more right now (it has its quirkiness, though). Also, I agree with the comment that the Zune's ear buds are superior.

Ipods imo don't have exceptional audio quality. I think you should wait in a year and buy one of those iphone ripoff copies(no hate intended). I heard of a new chip that Texas Instruments(TI FTW VATOS!) that will allow you to play HD quality videos in it as well as other neat thingy magingies.
p.s. ipod IS an mp3 player, its just that it can also play mp4 format audio. I don't know why people classify Ipods as in a whole different ballgame.
edit: here they talk about that new technology that I said. I have come to realize that this technology is coming out this year, and not the next(didn't know this article was a year old, haha). http://www.zdnetasia.com/news/hardware/0,39042972,62024682,00.htm
check out this article, talks about HD on phones(also a year old article). http://news.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39029678,49294627,00.htm The Nokia N95 sounds as a badass phone, but the N96 is.. well, sleeker.

The thing is about FLAC is usually, you can't tell the difference unless you have amazing headphones and/or great ears so not being able to play FLAC doesn't really matter.

Just so you know, there are already phones that can do everything an iphone can do and more. They just don't have as pretty a UI.

I personally cant stand ipods or anyting apple for that matter. their hardware sucks and so does their software (itunes) Itunes is a fuckign nazi, only lets you transfer YOUR music like a handful of times and you have to "erase" (been a while cant remember the term they use) it before you can transfer it again. Itunes runs like shit, freezez all the time, just like the ipod - ie. you tell the ipod to go to the next song 10-15 seconds later it actually does. Urgh they are just junk and i had the most frustrating experience with them. They are also very unintuitive in their UI, if your used to using windows well, apple does everything backwards so get ready to relearn and be frustrated GO MP3
