I've always loved shmups, something about controlling one little airplane and dodging 10 billion bullets makes me feel like the king of the world. In the past couple of years, I've been really into danmaku (curtain fire) shmups like Touhou. I've played all the PC Touhous (I can't say I'm very good at them though =P, but they are a blast to play if you're halfway decent).

Only recently (like maybe a week ago) I discovered the little brother (or sister I guess) of Touhou, Seihou. If you thought Touhou was sick, Seihou is even more on crack. The gameplay is at a much faster pace (but the hitbox of your plane is even smaller).

Here's a video of the Extra stage of the 1st Seihou game Shuusou Gyoku

A video of the extra stage of Samidare, it's a Seihou game but not part of the series (the series being Shuusou Gyoku, Kioh Gyoku, and Banshiryuu).

If anyone wants to try Shuusou Gyoku, I can provide a link. I've yet to find any of the other games, so if anyone finds them, give me a link =P (haji help!!)

I play shmups (mostly the Touhou ones) occasionally but i suck, they are still fun as hell to play though. The Samidare one looks awesome!
We make signature, then defense it.

There was a translated documentary on shmups, it was really interesting.

It was iteresting when someone had the idea that spawned danmaku, simply reduceing your hitbox to a single dot. They were interviewing people who were there when it when it first starting being implimented, and they were basically reflecting your thoughts: "I felt like god doding billions of bullets"

The first video didn't work, but I was able to watch the second one. It was amazing. I think I wet myself at the boss part.

raymooo!

not enough of a fanbase for this one. regular touhou fans are mostly otakus there for the character pron and stuff. the whole thing is rather surreal.

Hm, there seems to be more movement in this than in Touhou, where you pretty much just turtle at the bottom all the time. I guess Shoot the Bullet is good about forcing you to go into more dangerous situations (i.e. up) to get a shot.

edit: not like I'm any expert on Touhou lol. I'm only marginally proficient at shmups.

These kinds of games are fun but so damn hard. I'm SO bad at them. The only ones I have are Dodonpachi Daioujou and Shikigami no shiro 2 for PS2 and Ikaruga for Dreamcast. do you guys play with arcade sticks or just normal controllers? I have an arcade stick (Hori Tekken 4 for PS2) but I actually find it easier to play with the normal PS2 controller.

touhou is keyboard only. i am only decent on this ultraold computer that lags, so stuff moves a lot slower.

Ugh, apparently the guy disabled embedding for the 1st video, get it at the link (quote my 1st post or something). Personally I think the 1st video is a lot better than the 2nd. Having a shield is kinda a "get out free" card and kinda takes away from the fun for me.

I've uploaded Shuusou Gyoku

The music is cool as hell.

This game looks tough, I was never good at dodging billions of bullets but I could give it a try.

I've been able to use my PS2 controller for Touhou games, but no luck using D-Pad.

ArC_man, is the game you uploaded the full version? Seems small! Thanks for sharing though, never heard of Seihou before.

Lots of Touhou related games, including some info on the Seihou games, here on the Touhou Wiki.

The Seihou official website only has the trials, but I found a torrent with Kioh Gyoku and Banshiryuu. PM me if you want the link, I'll try to upload it somewhere later.

It is actually the full version. The game was made before any of the PC Touhou's (so it's old as hell).

PM me the torrent link please =P

I've uploaded Kioh Gyoku and Banshiryuu

[url blocked]

Kioh Gyoku is similar to Phatasmagoria of Flower View and Twinkle Star Sprites

Banshiryuu is more like a regular danmaku shmup, except I can't seem to get any power-ups (I beat like 2 levels and didn't get 1 power-up, I'll play it more later)

Thanks to Chill for the shmup documentary, I dl'ed it but I'll check it out sometime later.
