Didn't want to create a thread about it, but I need music I can play while playing 12 tables of poker without that it puts me on tilt. I really like violin music, but I'm not familiar with much of it. Examples of music I really like on the violin are below. If someone could suggest songs I would appreciate based on the ones below I will appreciate it!

Based on what you posted your taste is more into salon-music classical violin (there is a difference between that and "classical" classical violin).

Something similar to Sarasate might be the Tzigane by Ravel

If looking for Salon music, a classical proponent and composer is Fritz Kreisler (many of his old recordings are also on youtube, and modern artists also play him).

If you want to take a look into "classical" classical violin, you want to consider:

Sonatas and Suites by J.S. Bach - Many dance pieces, some quite meditative.
example: the famous Chaconne:

Paganini: Caprices (one of the most technically demanding sets ever written)
example: caprice no. 24 (unfortunately with piano)

Beethoven: Violin Sonatas (especially Kreutzer and Spring), Violin Romances and Violin Concerto.
example: first movement of Kreutzer sonata

Other famous Violin Concertos from 19th century are from: Brahms, Mendelssohn (e-minor is very famous), Bruch, Tschaikovsky.
example: 3rd movement Mendelssohn:

Hope this helps, if you give me some more feedback on what of it you like, I can certainly refine the recommendations.

^- Muchos gracias! I will look at all these tomorrow when I get back. I just looked over it real fast, but appreciate your effort put into it and I'm sure I will enjoy at least some of those. I'll be sure to let you know which ones appeal to me most. Once again thx for such an excellent post.

The Sibelius violin concerto is outstanding. Oistrakh recording from 1966:

Recordings vary a lot. Oistrakh defines it, IMO. Midori is very good too.

So even though you asked for Violin pieces, I'll recommend a few Cello pieces. Cello pieces tend to be a bit slower, so perhaps a bit better for keeping your concentration.

(My favurite cello piece, probably my favourite classical piece)

My last one I can't seem to find but it's Macdowell's Romance for Cello and Orchestra.

Just in case you meant violin only I'll throw in a few violin pieces:

(Perhaps not the best poker music, but Paganini is always fun, especially this concerto)

(Vivaldi, yet another Baroque artist, not quite what you said your taste was but too beautiful not to include)

Looking through my music for violin pieces to recommend I was reminded once again that I seriously don't like the violin. If the celloist is the basist, then the violinist is the damn lead guitarist.

Ahh, just thought of something. Since you're dutch you're sure to like electronic music (go stereotyping!), as such you might enjoy this. It's an electronic arrangement by the breakcore artist Venetian Snares of Elgar's Cello Concerto.

Hope any of this was helpful (although I'm not too confident that it will be).

He has it spot on though

These two are the ones I liked most out of all above. I really do appreciate all the videos posted though and they helped me play great as I played a very fine session, but I don't think I will listen to most of them again. Somehow I feel they sound much different from the first two videos I have posted which I enjoy most.

Strafe, if you liked the Cello pieces I'd recommend getting the Solstices of Elgar. The Cello Concerto remains my favourite, but the Solstices are also very good. You can also listen to any of Bach's Cello Concertos. I like Concerto #1 and #6 the most, but all of the are good.

Finally, I'll recommend Barber's Strings for Adagia. It's a very well known song, but the original (and the choral version) are both beautiful.
