Mai’s body froze for a moment. She stared at the jar. She already knew what she was going to do, but she wanted to deny it. It was desperate, it was insane for her to even think about it. But... She was ready to do anything she needed to do, for Adam.
Her thoughts had ceased as she tried to answer her own question as to why she was crying... But she just... Couldn't.
Dust flying into Mai’s nose, and into her eyes at the slight touch of anything- The room around Mai, really, it looked like a mechanic shop, or a laboratory of sorts. There were robotic parts everywhere, mechanical parts, glass, plastics, tools, wires. It was dusty, the door was never to be opened, not even by mai.
Why is that?-
the room was the room of someone else
Of the woman who took Adam in,
As her son,
And The room of the woman Mai used to be.
As Mai looked down at the jar of Adam's brain, she felt a wave of sadness and disgust rush through her. One of the hardest moments in her life took over her thoughts. The decision where she would lose her entire home and life at the cost of taking Adam in.
The decision to have a child that wasn't hers, when she still had yet to finish being one herself.
She was only 10 and she had everything taken away from her at the cost she took the consequences of someone else’s actions- to protect them.
She looked at the tools around her. Adam had everything taken away from him too. He didn't deserve to die.
Mai walked into the middle of the room, and she placed the jar of her brother's brain, down on a dark brown wooden desk, dust flying everywhere as she placed it down, and stood over it as if she wanted to protect it.
Mai was determined. She accepted that she would bring her brother back, no matter what it took...
A tear streamed down Mai's face, as Mai cried once more, knowing that this decision would change everything, but it was a sacrifice she had to make. She was prepared for that...
Just to get him back, even if it wouldn't be Adam.
As Mai looked around the room, she could see what she didn't want anyone else to see.
Her past
There were countless amounts of mechanical parts lying on the floor, scattered and lying around. Plastic containers, tools and wires, laying on the floor, as if they had just been thrown in a hurry.
In a hurry to hide them away
But you can't hide your past.
Not forever.
And as Mai stood in front of her brother's brain and eyes, her foot was the least of her worries
Mai slammed down her foot, the pain that had previously rushed over her like tidal waves was now calmer than still-water lakes.
Mai paused. Her mind raced through every possible option she could possibly make. The room was filled with all kinds of materials, plastic, metal, glass, mechanical parts...
Mai looked into the glass jar, and saw Adam's brain and eyes.
She finally knew what to do...
And now, she will do it.
Her tears were from the fact that her own brother, the one who she took care of, was gone. And the fact that she knew he would be back as someone else.
Adam is gone.
‘No
I-
No, He isn't’
The room was quiet... No noise, no sound... Except for Mai, breathing heavily, the beating of her heart racing faster than her thoughts.
Mai grabbed blueprint paper from one of the drawers in the desk, looking at the jar, staring at his eyes and brain. She wasn't shedding any tears now, her determination set on her face, the only thing that mattered was that she was to get Adam back.
"I'm sorry", Mai said, as she turned her head towards Adam's eyes, as if Adam would look back at her and answer her...
Mai was determined to bring Adam back, no matter what, no matter what it took... No price was too much.
Mai grabbed her mechanical drawing set
Her pens
Her pencils
And her thoughts
And drew
Clean strokes
One after another
Each line creates a drawing,
A robot.
No
A drawing of Adam.
The new Adam
