Esports Historian: Completing A 2017 Resolution

[-Bluewolf-] United States609 Posts January 01 2019 19:25 GMT #1 Over a year ago, I casted a bunch of replays from a forgotten $20k 2002 USA Starcraft tournament under the banner of "eSports Historian". They were supposed to be the start of a series on all of the weird eSports knowledge I gained growing up being a part of virtually every competitive scene at that time. As part of my 2018 resolutions, I made a promise to complete the first pilot episode on a snowboarding game tournament in 2001. Rather than make new resolutions this year, I thought I'd take the time to complete that promise and after a dedicated night of recording/editing, have that pilot up at: That may end up being a bomb but at least now I would have given it a try. I do plan to do an episode on that 2002 tournament mentioned above (which has a scope beyond Starcraft) next but that will be more involved than what this pilot concept required. The speed of that episode coming out and whether I'll do future episodes depends on the reception of the pilot. If I just suck at this, I suppose time can wait for someone else to document these weird tournament histories. :p If you feel I can improve to something decent for the first more involved episode, do please let me know your constructive criticism! It feels good to start the year accomplished! Hope everyone else is having a productive start to 2019!

It's so important to record your history - it sounds like you have some rare documents on your hands here - look after them! Hopefully one day (and maybe today) libraries will have archives to preserve this kind of history, up until then it's up to guys like you - thanks! Never knew about this event - remember the game now seeing it on screen, was pretty cool. A few years ago I remember a mod or staff at TL posting a short blog series on esports history with a piece on professional arcade gamers from 1970s who would tour arcades around the US! Look forward to more instalments!
