I know that SC:BW is still alive. Even when SC2 was first released there were still many people playing the old version of best RTS game that was ever created. ICCUP, Korean Leagues but the HYPE from good, old days was RIP.

In the meantime when I retired from playing 'competetive' SC:BW (I was never near good, B- was my personal best) I almost totally forgot about the game. Never touched SC2 myself, just kept watching random games trying to convince myself to purchase the game but I've actually never did. SC2 was a totally different game - and I didn't like it.

I remember the first time I saw TL post concerning someone trying to make SC:BW in HD version. The units, buildings remake was pretty good and I hope one day we will see the BroodWar reborn in XXI century graphics.

The day Stacraft Remastered was announced I felt happy. It was actually the only game I wished to be announced and released in the nearest future. It's June already and I'm sitting here like I was 16 years younger, waiting for my beloved game to be released.

I've installed SC:BW one week ago, started with playing some good 'ol UMS and jumped into 2v2 games once I remembered how to actually play this game. Today, I jumped into random 2v2 game on Europe and what I saw? People I used to know over 10 years ago and never had any contact later on.

TiQ.MatzE. and ToT)MoE(. Got some random guy and started 2v2 game. Went random, got terran, long story short we got a hard beating. But it was fun. I wasn't even angry. Can't remember last game I've played and didn't feel anxiety when I had to surrender, especially getting murdered in a game like this,

So here I am, 30 years old guy, bringing back memories, hoping that SC:R will be AT least half HYPUUU as it was many, many years ago.

P.S : Remember, there is only one master race in this game.

P.S 2 : I already watched a shitload of old SC:BW VOD's to hype myself up >.<

I think the overall quality of the game will live up to its hype, but with with community, popularity, and trends, I'm kinda skeptical it will be as hype as the people you played with back in BW heyday.

I'm not expecting SC:BW to be THAT huge as it was in 2003-2008 or something around that. If it were at least half of that hype, that'd be enough ;-)

I'm happy that BW is finally getting a bit of well-deserved attention from Blizzard and I'm sure that BWR will bring people back around to the old scene. But even if it works out, it will look more like a consistent long term trickle back into an old game than a sudden, grandiose revival.

For me personally, my Brood War days are behind me. Amateur leagues do not interest me and I am a fair bit older than I was back then, with a lot more things that I have to do. It's clear that playing Starcraft just isn't in the cards for me anymore. But I wish the best to both the scene and the people who do wish to take part.
History will sooner or later sweep the European Union away without mercy.

Well, I'm a bit older as well. I have other responsibilities but I'm pretty sure I'll manage to find an hour or two to play some fun 2v2 games with BW vets once BWR hits live ;-)

I think you correctly picked Terran.png, but somehow that's a picture of a zerg. Pls fix.

Joke aside, SC:R should be hyyyype! I truly hope a lot of new players try their hand at it so I can find people that suck to play and practice with without getting utterly demolished.

Why is that? When I first installed SC:BW I thought I'm not gonna play more than few weeks and what happened? I played this game for over 10 years :p

Ok.I think new players will not be able to live with 12 unit limit, no mbs and no autorally to minerals. My opinion.Maybe 10% of new players will stick around 6 months or longer.

For people that grew up with the game like you or i these things do not matter. It is a generational thing, kids coming over from sc2 or mobas are used to these QoL things.

BW has always been small internationally and big in Korea, I think this debate is kinda weird.

Since when BW been small internationally? Wow, I think we followed totally different games. SC:BW was probably the most or one of the most watched/played/viewed international games at some point.

Indeed.

Maybe he is talking about after 2010
I guess after SC2 was released it's true that BW was sort of small outside of Korea.

However, if you look at e-sports between 2001 and 2008 - what was there?
SC:BW, W3, CS, and some Dota.... that's it, at least for the big games. Anything I'm missing?

Like what years? I don't think BW had big events outside of Korea like Halo/WC3/Counterstrike/Smash did?

WCG was probably the event he's thinking off and TSL too but I never watched foreign BW so I have no clue personally how big they were. Either way, there is hype and I think the scene will benefit if Blizzard does a good job on the remastering, however, I don't think we'll go back to like 2000-2006 or so level of activity.

Starcraft did fine in the Western world. It just didn't develop a scene that survived over a decade. It just followed the standard Western style: wildy popular for a few years, followed by a precipitous drop in interest as the next hot shit comes out.

We're still here and we're coming up on 20 years. That's as good as a video game can hope for.

It all depends on how Blizzard will treat BW:R if it comes to tournaments and prize pools. If it's somehow bigger than SC2, I think that most players will switch back to SC:BW. We already have plenty of Korean pro players coming back to BW, playing and streaming it.

WCG Poland, around 2005 if I'm not mistaken. EDIT: I was wrong, it was 2004.

I dont know why audio doesnt work for me ;/

Also, in early 2000s in Poland SC BW was popular as lan game. I can confirm it, I started by playing against playground chumps. The same can be said for Quake games, they were lan heaven.

Don't really consider it hype-worthy considering it's just the original glorious BW with improved graphics and modernized interface. The core game is still there, untouched.

IM MORE HYPED FOR A EPIC REVIVAL OF THE BROOD WAR SCENE IN DELICIOUS HD IN KOREA, YEAH BABY!!.

Yeah. you had WCG, but so did a lot of other games. Most countries didn't have anything big outside of WCG. It's a different world now, with a lot of popular games, more competition for games to get spots in those mutli game events, for sponsors, publishers backing games' competitive scenes.

That's where I think you're being unrealistic. Korean pros are coming back, but they had a way healther scene. I don't think there's much inventive for foreign pros to come back. There's not many tournaments and the gap between KR and foreigners is far, far more dramatic than even SC2.
