Hi everyone!
I'm trying to get a job at Blizzard (graduating soon) for the Starcraft team and I'd love to get some help/advice from the TeamLiquid community.
For some context about my background. I'm a pretty huge Starcraft fan, played BW when I was 5 and have been hooked ever since. I've pretty much switched over completely to Starcraft 2 by this point, but BW still has a special place in my heart. I've attended Blizzcon 2014 (for WCS Finals) and visited Korea for about half a year to go and watch Korean tournaments live (and also to study for school… or something).
I’m a computer science student and I’ve develop games in my free time. I founded a club on campus in which we develop an indie game every year so I’ve gotten a lot of good experience designing and managing software products.
These last two years I’ve actually applied to numerous Blizzard positions for internships and have actually gotten a few interviews! Unfortunately, I never managed to secure a position. Because of this, I’d really like to have a chance to talk to someone within Blizzard who I can tell them about myself and hopefully be able to use this connection to get some kind of referral into the company. Or, just getting some good advice for the interview process would work great!
Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone who currently works at Blizzard so I was hoping that someone on TeamLiquid could help me out. If you currently work for Blizzard or know of someone who works there, would you please let me know? I will be forever indebted to you!

I'd say spend a fuckton of time on your portfolio, it needs to be in the top 5% for them to even consider you.

the easiest way to get in contact would probably be throught linkedin i would think, just add a few people from the starcraft department or whatever and try to network through them i guess???
to play devil's advocate, it's almost never a good idea to purse a specific company that you want to work for because 1 it's much harder to get a job at "famous" companies and 2 the work environment tends to be worse working at said companies because they can treat their employees poorly (be it through workload, compensation, or just giving you shitty tasks that won't grow you as an employee) and skirt by on their name alone.. even if you love blizzard you would be better off in the long run just looking for a mid to small sized company that will grow you as a person..
in other industries, what you're doing would be wanting to work for Exxon, Shell, Facebook, Twitter, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McKinsey, Deloitte, etc etc.. all of them look very pretty but it's like impossible to get a "good" job with them unless you're already in or get preetty lucky. I would even say that blizzard is less likely to treat you right because their operations are much smaller in nature than the companies i listed above so there will be less good spots to compete for.. just be careful!!

I'm already in the interview process with Google. But my dream position is still at Blizzard. Now that I've got the leverage I'm trying to see if I can get this position!

Don't be afraid to look for work in smaller boxes. Without any work experiences it'll be hard to crack into Google and Blizzard, they've got a lot of people trying to get in and they'll want evidence that you can do the work.

One day you probably can, but it takes experience. Have to start small before you can get to the big fish typically  .

I'd say keep applying to intern positions, probably your best way to get your foot in the door. Also don't limit yourself to just applying at Blizzard. If you clock in a few years experience with another company your resume will be more attractive.

As mentioned, might be best to find a smaller company to start out with then move outwards. Jobs at the big companies are really competitive and without much experience etc... it's pretty difficult to land a position. Either way, good luck!
