GSL Code A Day 2 Predictions and Analysis

Leenock Vs Stats

The KT team kill puts high flying Protoss Stats up against the underperforming Zerg Leenock. Stats is heading into this series with momentum with a recent all kill of SKT in SPL playoffs and winning the Cross Finals. Perhaps more worrying for Leenock is that in the all kill of SKT stats eliminated three Zergs, including Dark the best Zerg in the world.

Meanwhile leenock has however defeated two Protoss players in Super and herO. These games were played in SPL. Leenock will need to show a different side to his play than his recently form if he is to emerge victorious from this series. When the records are compared its obvious Stats record overshadows Leenocks.

While Stats has been winning Titles, all killing and making finals Leenock has been fighting to be the fourth best player on KT. I think Stats will beat Leenock cleanly 3-0.

Stats 3 – 0 Leenock

SpeeD vs Trust

With SpeeD have just left KT, this is also a team kill. Well sort of. SpeeD is really up against it here, being teamless and with this being his only chance to get GSL play this year he has to do well. I think the key to this is whether he can handle the pressure in what is one of the biggest games of his career to date. His history against Protoss also works against him with his SSL qualifier run being halted by Myungsik and Super. SpeeD is backed into a corner, let’s hope he fights his way out.

Trust has pressure himself, having not played an official game since a 2-0 loss to Soulkey back at the end of January. Surely he needs to perform here if he wants to have any hope getting a shot in proleague at any time. With all the time since his last official game it’s unlikely he has been doing much but practicing, so it’s impossible to tell what kind of form this Protoss is in.

SpeeD can be the better player here, but he is not reliable and especially with this amount of pressure on his shoulders, it all comes down to preparation. Trust is a good player, but if the real SpeeD shows up he should take it.

SpeeD 3 – 2 Trust

SoO vs HyuN

ZvZ, everyone loves it. If there is a matchup to be playing against a better opponent and still have a chance, it is certainly this one. HyuN is outclassed by SoO but can he pull something crafty out be beat SoO? He needs to bring something special to beat SoO. He showed very promising results in last year’s SSL, but let’s be honest only so much of that applies.

SoO has the pedigree of being the better player as well as the results, having previously beaten Solar, Byul and Leenock in the recent months. HyuN isn’t even at their level and SoO has beaten them convincingly. SoO has also been practicing with Impact as he had a ZvZ code A match against Curious which he won 3-1.

I don’t see this game going any differently. I think SoO will dominate the series, with HyuN taking a game because its ZvZ and anything can happen.

SoO 3 – 1 HyuN

I hope you enjoyed, feedback appreciated as always.

This was a shorter preview than before sadly as I had time constraints for this piece. Apologies for that.

I think being teamless, SpeeD is out of luck. Trust can still rely on TY and jjakji for practice (and both of them have Protoss players in their SSL group, + jjakji has MyuNgSiK in Code A). On the flip side, I don't think Stats and Zest are available for SpeeD.Trust beat BrAvO in the SSL qualifiers who I'd say is not worse than SpeeD, so I'd say his form looks solid, too. Plus Trust has a bit less pressure as he's in both leagues, while for SpeeD it's do-or-die. Maybe not just for 2016, but overall if he stays teamless.

I enjoy that you're doing these write-ups btw.

I think SpeeD can do it, but its definitely more of a gut feeling, i cant quite say why i just think he has what it takes. If he isnt the kind of player to strive under pressure then he is in big trouble for sure. I'm glad you enjoy them

Agree with most of what you wrote but I'm really not sure about SpeeD. Will be very intetested to see if he can rise up and make it through teamless. Would be cool to see, but i just don't think he can sadly. I think the pressure will get to him.
