Wednesday, 19th of August - I'm driving home with my wife -- she just picked up her new ID, since we got married, she was obliged to do it. It's 4:30pm, we're talking about our honeymoon (we have a flight on 29th at 2am).
Wife : Nice, I got my ID finally, we're all set to go to the honeymoon. Also would be funny if your ID expired <laughs>, let me check it, because I'm curious.
Grabs my wallet, quick look at the ID and the expiration date is 27th August...
Wife : I don't fucking believe it.
Me : What happened?
Wife : Your ID expiration date is 2 days before our flight.
Me : ....
When I come back home I also notice that my passport expired last year. What am I supposed to do now I'm thinking... it takes at least 2 weeks to have new ID / new passport done. I google and I find out that I'm pretty much fucked for real. I have one week to get one of the documents done (European Union, Schengen btw).
Next day I wake up early in the morning and go straight to the City Hall. I fill in the documents and go to speak with the lady to find out if there is possibility to make it any quicker but unfortunately, she says that even if they send my documents marked as priority there is no fucking chance to make it done in one week. I'm screwed I speak to myself. I need to fucking do something or my wife is gonna beat the shit out of me.
I get into car and drive immediately to Passport Office and straight to the Office Manager. I fill in the documents, I tell him my story and beg him to help me somehow. He makes a call to someone and says that they're sending my documents immediately to Warsaw (as IDs and passports in Poland are all printed/produced in capital) BUT he can't promise me anything. He then says that there is big possibility for it to arrive by thursday BUT not 100%. He tells me to call on Wednesday to check how things are going.
I've tried to leave him a 'gift', which was a nice bottle of whisky, confidentially leaving it by his desk but he tells me I've left something and let's me know that he can't take anything like that, RIP mah bribe idea.
It's Tuesday now, 7pm, tommorow I'm going to call and ask how things are going. I'm stressed, my wife is 1000x stressed than me and freaking out saying we won't go anywhere and how dumb I am that I've fucked up the honeymoon, because I didn't check such a simple thing.
I have to admit, I'm a fucking moron but I hope everything will work out in the end.

yeah I wish it was that easy. Also when I've tried to call the Travel Agency, they told me that changing departure date for 8-14 days before the flight will cost me 70% of total price. GG. I need that fucking passport.

Can't you get like an express passport in a day or two for extra money? Or even options for a few more days.

Nope. You can only get temporary passport in special circumstances, like death of family member.
I'd gladly pay for express passport but there wasn't such option, I've already got my documents send with priority tag.

Are you sure?
In Sweden you get 'Provisional' passport for about 100 euro. People usually get it abroad because it got stolen (that's more expensive) but also at the airport when it turns out they've forgotten it or it expired. It's only valid for one trip though. I think BossDH actually travelled to the US on a provisional passport without trouble.
You do however need a valid ID to get one.

Yeah same thing in the Netherlands, you pay 30-50 bucks more, but you get the passport in 2 days. No provisional stuff, just the actual passport.
Other countries might be less flexible though?

In Canada it usually takes 10 business day but we can choose to get express (2-9 days) (more expensive) or even next business day (lots more expensive).
At least you get to keep the whiskey for yourself now lol. Hopefully the wife doesnt kill you? Look into developing a plan B maybe? Anyways, hope things go well and you get it by thursday

I remember last time I had to renew my passport, it was expiring around the day I was supposed to fly, and I found out about it 1 month before.
Ah and you were the one who blogged about asking for holiday recommendation. Where did you decide on your honeymoon anyway?

Worst case scenario, you cancel the honeymoon and push it back a year.

I almost missed my flight to Korea because of a semi-expired passport. Here, you can pay extra cash to maybe get a passport in 2 weeks. So I paid and of course that didn't work out. I decided to fly over to Korea despite being advised against it and just rely on being lucky with the officer.. Thankfully everything went ok but yeah I know the feeling all too well. It's especially frustrating when you can't do anything about it either. But hey at the end of the day it's just a holiday you might miss. If you do miss it, I suggest you come up with an epic plan to make it up to your wifu and who knows, you may have a better time than if you did make the flight in the first place.

Yes I am sure. Since all the passport are printed in Warsaw it takes AT least 5 days to have it done and there is no option to pay extra to get ur shit done faster :\

I have a plan B. If I don't get passport on time I'm gonna use a friend of mine that works at the airport to just let me go with expired ID. Since ID is only checked at Check-In, I think that might work. But I'd love to have my passport instead, no more stress to be honest.

I can't miss it, that's the point. That's too much of money to lose + I've already took vacations at work, so... There is no such possibiility.

It actually all depended on that guy from Passport Office. If he didn't give a fuck about me and my problem, I probably wouldn't get it done so fast but good for me, he cared. Also I've heard a lot good about him before.

Well played in the end, however (if I may) the missis will not forget it though, so when it will come up again (anniversary of honeymoon) make up a spiel to let her think you forgot "yet again" then countering it with a "bigger/better" surprise/present/surprise party etc.

I've just dealt with visa shit to get into Europe from America, though my stuff took about 5 days to get to me (which is insanely fast) it only ended up that way because the Spanish Embassy in Houston is really free. Even with that luck the amount of hoops I had to jump through was ridiculous. Any kind of int'l documentation is hell lol. I'll say a prayer for your passport probs.
