Day 3. Sunday
I wake up from the biggest hangover I've had in a while. I look on the floor to see my barf, but my head is too much of a trainwreck to clean it up at the moment. I search everywhere and I can't find my room key, so I go to the front desk on the first floor to ask for it, with bare foot (where the hell are my shoes too). Hair torpedo'd, barefoot, shirt wrinkled and untucked, I must be a sight for sore eyes, I tell myself, as the Colombian staff look at me with widened eyes.
I get excited thinking about meeting Alexa, the girl that initially made me choose to come to Colombia (I've been online friends with her for a year). I tell Paola I am going to be busy today and cannot hang out with her, and she seems visibly upset but let's me go. 30 min later, when I'm in my room, I get an email from her (no chat message so we communicate in email since all I have is my iPad now), a long paragraph of her saying it was good to meet me, she's going to fly back to her city today, she's really sad she couldn't hang out with me on Sunday, she thought we were going to hang out this day too, and that's why she flew from her city to Bogota (flying within Colombia is cheap btw). I get a huge guilt trip, and email Alexa that I can't meet her today and we meet next week. I tell Paola this, and initially she tells me no it's okay, go do your own thing, but I convince her to hang out with me. But because she has business clients to meet, she tells me she'll be back in my hotel around 3. Well, time to doze off I guess, and I do just that.
Afternoon comes around, Paola comes back, and we go to the north side of downtown, where they have these really exotic streets and cool murals, buildings, and historical aspects.
My pictures below:
La Canderia
I snap a lot of pictures on my spare camera I brought (thank god), but too bad the quality wasn't great. Anyway, it was so helpful having a local take you to places, because she knew where the dangerous parts were, and which direction to go. This place was also not that far off from the shabby place where I got my phone stolen, so I was being very cautious.
The time rolls by, and she takes me to an amusement park nearby. It was actually pretty fun even though I felt I grew out of the amusement park phase age. We waited for this haunted house, and my god it was awesome. They lead you into this dark corridor with NO LIGHTS for the longest time, and then they lead you to these series of rooms and halls where you have props and human actors (dressed up) that pop up and scare the living daylights out of you. This "ghost" was within a jail cell screaming like hell, and I felt relieved because he was behind bars, so I laughed a little, and then he heard the laugh, and CAME OUT of the cell to chase us down. I freaked the fuck out. The attraction was like almost 40 min long, so it was amazing. If you go to Bogota, check it out. The other attractions were pretty stale; I waited for this roller coaster ride, and this older woman was waiting next to me in line, and I got paranoid and freaked out again that I was going to get pickpocketed, even though I had nothing in my pockets. Yeah, turns out, she was just with her family. Paranoia my friends.
We also played prize competing games there. There was also this mini-game where you try to throw the ball into one of the holes in front of you, and you compete with everyone, but I learned instantly that the trick to making the ball land in the farthest hole was to spin-throw the ball, and won the race out of 9 people, to get a doll prize for Paola. Felt like a champ. We head back to the hotel at night, and she sleeps in my room (she already canceled her room b/c she thought she was flying back today).
Time for sex, I thought. Turns out it wasn't going to be that easy. Paola and I were easily making out, but she didn't want me touching her butt or breasts. She had her guard up, and she was also a young mom (who had a mistake baby), so she was cautious about anything sexual. My experiences in Japan when I bring girls over came to use again. The trick is, the girl will stop you if you go "too far." You stop and comply, and then start over from the kiss. Every time you start over, you go just a little bit farther than where you stopped, but you take it very slow. "let me massage you" also helps because it gives you an excuse to touch them everywhere. I went at it for hours but she was one of the most defensive girls I've ever had to experience. I just need to be able to rub the clit, and I can win this game, I think to myself. But you can't go that far without getting her slightly horny, and that takes time. Her flight was in the morning, so we unfortunately had no time. On the last hour before she had to leave the hotel, she was grinding and feeling my raging boner through her underwear, and she was rubbing that junk on her pussy, but that's as far as she went. Needless to say, I had blue balls for the rest of the day. A little disappointed I failed, and sad that she was leaving, we go to the airport together because my flight to Medellin was the same day.
Day 4. Monday (Medellin)
So if someone told you Bogota was the best city in Colombia, they had poor tastes or they had no idea. Medellin is, in my opinion, the paradise of Colombia. As the 2nd biggest city, known for its spring-like weather year round, friendly locals, with cheaper housing costs, and Paisas (beautiful Colombian women), Medellin was the city I was destined to go to. It also used to be a drug city, kind of like Miami, where the city was built from drug overlords many years ago, but now very safe. And also much safer than Bogota, which was a huge plus.
I spent an eternity in Bogota airport (my flight was about 4 hours after Paola's). I ordered coffee & donut, + Show Spoiler +
I remember the cashier trying to tell me I had enough exact change with coins, which was nice of her, but I had to spend 5 min trying to understand what she was saying; just let me fucking pay with big bills and get change back!
So I land in the hostel where I had a reservation, the Wandering Paisa (I recommend you guys go there, awesome staff, friendly travelers, events planned throughout) and I quickly meet fellow travelers.
Needless to say, I made a couple of friends instantly. That night, we went out to a jazz bar. The three of us, me, Elizabeth, and Ed were there, and we played a game where each of us had to talk to a member of the opposite sex and try to get their number. I walked over to a lady (in red hair and white skin, but surprisngly she wasn't white but Colombian) and started introducing myself. My Spanish was almost nonexistant and her English was pretty bad too so the convo got nowhere and I had to ditch the woman. But I felt good I made her laugh a few times using body language and subtle language. Elizabeth had the balls to talk to the jazz player after the show, which was really ballsy of her. Ed chickened out and couldn't talk to anyone, but no pressure since he's a cool guy. We end up in a nearby park where everyone there is smoking weed, listening to music, playing guitar, and just having a good time drinking beer. I pay $1 for a giant local beer (and it's pretty good) and we chill out for a while in good mood. We go back to the hostel later but I was too tired to do anything around 2 AM.
Day 5 Tuesday (Medellin)
After setting up a date with a local girl on Wednesday (I talked to her a few weeks back), I walk around the hostel for food and ATM. Walking around in warm weather was great, and seeing the local area was cool. What should I do today? I think to myself. Elizabeth invites me to go with her to go to the famous cable car ride that passes over the mountains. I accept and we take the metro. We pass over the hills, and see how people live in the slums. It's their world, and it's a totally new world. I was intrigued with how these people lived; you could see all the laundry on the rooftop, broken walls, flimsy doors and all sorts of culture.
After what seemed like an hour, we go to a park located near the mountain, where there are small villages. We ride horses (like $10 for 30 min) with a guide, who smokes pot as we ride together. The area is really secluded, but people live here peacefully. Felt really secure here. Some pictures below:
I was hoping to check out the rest of the city, but it was already dark by the time I came back. Did not want to go out in the dark on a weekday with little Spanish. Chilled in the hostel, talked to some cool people. There were some great streetfood...you could pay $4 and get giant beef pieces. You don't really eat a lot of vegetables here unfortunately. They have lettuce pieces and carrots which is pretty much their extent of vegetables. If I was vegan or vegetarian in Colombia, I would starve. Highlight of the trip, coming up in the next blog.
