The twitch channel only got no more than 30k viewer last night for GSL Final. People watching it also had to suffer from the super low quality, thanks to the don't-care-foreigners attitude from GSL.
It's one of the biggest finals in Starcraft and yet only the Koreans enjoyed it as much as it appeared to be.
I am not a pro player, heck yet, I am not even able to get in Diamond league; however, I enjoy watching the games and I tuned in last night to watch GSl but got disappointed by the quality and viewership.
One of the biggest reasons is that people don't care about GSL, especially non-pro players living outside Korea. What happens in Korea, stays in Korea. Hear me out.
When MMA, MC were slamming Europeans and Taeja Hyun kicking American butts, many of us were excited to watch and be a fan of them. It's the interaction of the Koreans and the foreign scenes that draws the most attention and passion. Who doesn't want to watch that?
In addition to lack of interaction with foreigners, GSL is also largely inaccessible and unfriendly to casual player or passionate fans like me. They charge money to watch while all other popular games on Twitch are free; They play on opposite time zone; And they don't have much stories to follow. Also there are way too many good players and no-names in GSL that any one of them wins is nothing superising to me. I really don't care about what's going on in GSL to be honest. I flip my phone and check the scores at most.
On contrary, I would call sick at work and sit home to watch Polt or ForGG play in WCS here any time. I would do the same thing if MC, MMA, Tajae are here. I will watch Jaedong play when he returns any time. For GSL, I can't relate to that region and players and their interactions at all.
It's very disappointing that we got no games here to watch in WCS now. I don't understand why WCS is taking a spring break. Such a bad schedule leaves me wonder if they will change it again next year when LotV comes out. I hope so. I also hope region lock will be lifted. It's the Korean vs Foreigners that make the headlines and thrills, for me at least.

i disagree with you on many levels.

You got disappointed by the games because of the viewership numbers? Ok
I agree that Gom is acting pretty shittly though, Spotv has far surpassed them by now
Also I disagree that foreigners are required to make it nice. NSSL was so good. GSL is meh. Perhaps because it's being streamed via a potato and not watchable if you miss the broadcast, not even in Korean (which wouldn't cost them anything, as these vods are free in Korea...)

What an incredibly elaborate retort. Worthy of a quality poster star indeed.

The game was great 4:3 I will rate it high quality for sure. I was disappointed by 30k viewer numbers because I love Starcraft. Ofc I want the number higher than this sad 30k tbh.

This is false. It peaked at well over 40k. No comment on the rest of your post except sorry you feel that way.

For the EU zone specifically it was quite a harsh time to watch. 07:00 in my time zone (Netherlands) on sunday-morning. But furthermore I think it's just a matter of taste. I personally like WCS (thus far) as it is, and I think enough good storylines were created in both SSL and GSL. That being said, yes, GSL is quite expensive this season. Luckily we will get medium quality for free next season.
I for one, do care a lot about what happens in SSL/GSL and the stories of all 'no-name' (chuckle) players. I am happy with the way things are right now. If you only get thrilled by Koreans vs Foreigners, well, meh. I guess you are watching the game for a different reason than me.
edit: fixed sentence

I don't feel like PvZ in SC2 has ever had the magic to make a great final the way TvZ, TvP and TvT does, especially in the current meta game where P has to cheese or 2base all in to not get completely over ran. Also doesn't help that it's on so late.

Don't worry OP, you'll be able to watch Firecake soon

Funny, I was really happy that the stream hit 40k peak. GSL haven't had that for years as far as I can recall. I'd suggest that you try to give less thought about the viewer numbers if they somehow affect your experience so negatively.
I am basically the opposite of everything you said; I hardly ever bother to watch WCS EU or NA now. The few koreans they had were not as interesting to me since they weren't playing against the highest level opponents most of the time unlike in Korea. I'd tune into the semis/finals at best.
Personally, I don't care about the low quality a single bit: I basically even forgot it was there for most of the season. In fact that is how I started watching back in 2011 so I suppose I'm used to it. I do understand that it turns off casual/new viewers but when every other tournament is basically free HD, I think its a ridiculous argument that GSL is somehow murdering Starcraft by being basically THE ONLY TOURNAMENT in low quality. Its not the "main" tournament in the scene: WCS is. Its also arguably not the highest level of play anymore either; NSSL and Proleague provide the same level of play by mostly the same players, if you cant stand low quality you can watch those.
The lack of stories... I feel like this is just you not following the tournament. There were plenty of stories, in fact far more than something like WCS NA has ever had if you ask me. This isn't really a point of argument, of course you will not see the stories if you do not follow the tournament. Timezones are timezones and cannot be really fixed, but I've always liked being able to put GSL on in the morning here in Europe so it hasn't been a problem either.
So yeah, basically I disagree with everything you said.

I really don't care about the GSL at all. They really give me little reason to care about what they are doing. I honestly think WCS is the superior product. Heck every tournament for every other game offers a superior experience. They don't ask for $8 a month to view in quality above "low" which btw GSL promised they would change with Season 2 in the stream chat. I've watched group A recently and take a wild guess if they actually backed up their promised? If you guessed they didn't change quality you are correct. Other than that the quality of their finals has historically been awful for the past couple of years. Really boring and one sided games. Even the Code A games I've seen recently seem really bad. It's like watching players go through the motions but really have lost passion for the game. The GSL just seems like a sinking ship at this point. I hope tastosis find other opportunities in casting starcraft and work for a better company.
