I want to tell a short story about ladder, MMR issues and 'dealing with actually decent opponents'.
So, what happened in the first place? As some of you might remember (DarkLordOlli, FFWRude, ..) I complained a lot about having been placed in Gold for the #Dreampool season. Well, that was the point where I decided to actively get in 1on1 again.
With roughly 30-0, I got promoted to plat. With about 50-5, I got promoted to diamond and managed to hold top8 for quite a while until my activity dropped again.
At this point, I was riding a wave of "winning". I was expecting to win 5, 6, 7 games in a row and was disappointed more than ever before when I lost a game. Then it happened. I went online one evening to play some games. Lost the first one (well, that usually happens to me somehow). Lost the second one. The third one. The fourth one.

I did not touch StarCraft II 1on1 for another 2-3 weeks up to now. I spent some thoughts on why exactly I take losses that hard. I identified reasons:
1. I am used to winning. Gold to Plat to Dia with roughly 50-5 win/loss ratio - I have to get used to lose more games simply due to better opponents. As it currently stands, I feel every loss double as hard as I should.
2.I think I have great micro and decent macro. I also thought that I have great game knowledge and the ability to adjust build orders on-the-fly and reactionary (which is why I am way better in ZvP than I was in WoL ironically - I was so bad at adapting my build to the protoss' most likely all-in).
But - I think due to mainly playing 3vs3/4vs4, I lost my build order knowledge (or at least it's outdated) as well as my adaption skills.
=> I am sure I have the potential of playing masters (I've been masters three times already, once WoL, twice HotS I think) but I do not live up to my own expectations. I am not patient enough to see small progress pay off.
I also discovered that I actually have a really huge motivation to play if someone is watching me (even better if I can explain what I am doing to the watcher). That is why I streamed a lot of those 1v1 sessions although I had only 2 friends watching.
The conclusion of those short but highly valued points is:
I would like to find a (EU) practice partner. Hang around in teamspeak, try our build orders, practice several matchups, analyze the games after and see what went wrong. I know that I could do those things alone - but I am not playing 1v1 for competitive success only, but also for the fun of playing starcraft. I don't want the game to become work, but I do want to put fun effort into it. I hope the subtle difference is clear.
