I've always been a heavy drinker. Having been trained 6 months in Finland during my Erasmus surely took a part in this: I then refined my skills when I lived two months in Spain, to a point that lately a russian friend told me 'You drink like a russian', which I consider quite an achievement.
On the other side, I have always been pretty healthy. My heartrate is currently 48 beats per minute, which makes me question if I should have pursued a career in podistics I lift 5 times a week and I eat pretty healthy.
However, I have always had this so-called beer belly which I can't seem to get rid of. Therefore I finally decided: I am going to try 45 days without drinking anything AT ALL and see if I get fitter. Note that:
- I never drink during the week. NEVER. However, on Friday and Saturday I calculated that I was drinking at least 750 calories per night (so every weekend more or less 1500). I liked the gesture and the social factor of it.
- This is doublefold. I do it to get fitter, but I also do it to show myself how strong my will is. Have you ever thought things like 'man I surely enjoy coffee, but I could live no problem without it'? Are you sure?
-Why 45 days? Because I started more or les 10 days ago and therefore the last day will be December 31st
So to anyone who is interested to see how this goes, just keep an eye on my blog and if you want you can partecipate too! Choose your favourite vice and try to go 30/45 days without it, be it cigarettes/alcohol/coffee/whatever!
Cheers! (well maybe not the right word to end this )
I did something similar - for the challenge. I quit adding sugar to cereal, tea and coffee, and then i stopped adding milk to tea. I would like to try doing something as a challenge though - exercise. Running every day for the next month, just because I can. It's on. Thanks for inspiring me!
750 calories of alcohol seems like very little alcohol. googling calories in an IPA returns 200. apparently I drink 750 calories on any given weeknight.

thats three beer ( 0.5l each.. ) realy doesnt seem a lot, maybe op done the math wrong?
I don't drink coffee, don't smoke, don't do any drugs, drink alcohol only occasionnally. What shall I give up ? Also, I have been single for a while, so I'm not having sex either (unfortunately). So I can't give up what I don't have... *sigh* This year, I stopped watching TV shows which used to be a big habit of mine.
The only thing I could think of as an "addiction" currently would be working out/jogging. I'm really into sports, used to go jogging like 3 times a week, but sprained my ankle pretty badly recently. I got so crazy over not being able to do sports that I started lifting to work on my upperbody while my ankle gets better. I just couldn't stop doing sports. But does that really count ?

anyway, good luck and a nice january first
Yeah know that I think about it my calories may be even worse
Just make sure you are actually losing weight and not eating more because you are bored on weekends.
I saw many people think you need to quit drinking to do sports, that's bullshit. You can treat yourself on the weekends and not drinking is only mandatory if you are actually competing.
Chinese weightlifters are known from drinking on the off-season, and half of them are heavy smokers year round

I see a pattern there. Next should be Gluten. Give up on Gluten. Once you think you turn into a cockroach write a novel about it under a Czech pseudonym.

Haha no way man. There's no sense in giving up on gluten, I don't do anything I mentionned above because it isn't healthy. Not eating gluten or going vegan or w/e is just people trying to be "special"... Doesn't make any sense to me.
