Hi everyone!
It's been a while since my last blog, where I talked about moving on from TL.
Since then, ESEX has launched a successful Dota 2 kickstarter and we've learned a lot about running a proper campaign, enough that we can finally do the SC2 one. I feel like this one is tricky given the community's experience with crowdfunding, but we're going to try anyway.
Here it is! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hotbid/esports-express-starcraft-2
Reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/2msu5h/esports_express_starcraft_2_kickstarter/
If you want to help us get funded for SC2, thank you! If not, don't worry about it, hopefully you'll still be able to enjoy and read the content we put out if the project reaches its goal.
Any questions, comments, etc feel free to ask here, or contact through the ESEX contact form on the main esportsexpress.com site.

Wasn't DOTA2's done in like 6 hours? I don't think SC2 will be able to manage it quite that quickly... if at all.

We'll see I guess!

Well, you've made a cool $65 already, I think we're on pace

Man, if I lived in any of the places listed, I do a lunch date with Hotbid and guest.
Btw, if I don't have/trust a paypal account, is there any other way to donate? I've never donated to one of these before?

After reading the starcraft reddit comments, I can see why you were more apprehensive than with the dota2 community.
GL with this one as well.

GL with this one as well. well, I'll be the first one to admit going in that we knew this would be more challenging than the dota 2 one, but i think we made some cool rewards and hopefully the strength of our previous articles carries through.

Man, where's $5000 when you need it?

Hmm, the $5000 sounds pretty good

ESEX articles are always pure genius; I really hope this succeeds!

I know this won't be a kickstarter but can you please write some Smash stuff once this goes live?? <3
|
Love how so many of the rewards have connections to Starcraft personalities. The $1.5k one is especially funny, how you could get anyone to actually agree to do that is beyond me, but it'll probably be absolutely hilarious (if someone ponies up...I can't say I can spare that much, even though I do live pretty close to NYC lol)
ESEX fighting!

Really interesting to see how apprehensive folks are on reddit relative to the dota2 KS. I guess I don't spend much time on screddit these days but I hadn't realized how much past fundraising has impacted the community.
Good luck with the funding though! ESEX is great and these rewards are really funny: the idea of a floppy disc is hilarious and I'm sure archon mode + lunch with various people will all be great. Curious to see if someone actually goes for the date with smix lol
edit: also how the hell did I miss the Sons of Sons of Starcraft article wpwp

for 1500 does it have to be smix?

I think anyone who uses the excuse that "well we donated to KS projects in the past and got burned" hasn't really done their homework on ESEX and is just "karma whoring" as they call it.
This isn't some scumbag friend of Tastosis, This is a pretty "professional" ( can't really call HotBid that with a straight face) group of content producers and you will definitely see value come out of them.
|
Are you up for some e-sex?
|
Well, I think if you have a satire article (like the DOTA2 one) going with the KS it would be easier to make people donate
I will chip in some money when I got back home from work.

I'm all about StarCraft, but I happily gave some money to Dota2. Hopefully some of the Dota2 enthusiasts will do the same for SC2.

considering what's happening on a weekly basis all over the news since a few months, I found the video of the KS project quite out of place
that's prolly just me tho ...

Dota fans are the one group that rivals Starcraft fans in terms of superiority complex, so I don't see many donating to a competing game

Lalalaland34486 Posts
A lot of Dota fans have problems with LoL, but they don't really have a superiority complex towards SC2. I think it's just more that they don't overlap and most Dota fans don't have any idea about this.

Not gonna lie, the lunch with Catz is tempting. WCS group stages are still in the ESL Studios, which are doable for me, and if I wanna get involved with esports in a meaningful way, he'd be a hell of a brain to pick, not to mention the possibility of getting an "in" with two known names. Do I have $150 to spare, though...we'll see.

If the 1.5k offer had scarlett I am sure someone in her fanclub would pay that ^^

i don't think you could pay scarlett enough money for something like that

The occasional Smash article would be amazing for esex. I don't think you can do a kickstarter cause it's not big enough (just trying to be realistic here) but there's definitely potential here.
Can you just imagine the possibilities of an esex article about the legend of Falcomaster3000?

If we don't reach the goal, does this mean we don't get any SC2 articles, or will the number just be severely reduced?

Come on guys! 5$ for cursing someone with the mightiest curse known to mankind or alternativly let artosis spell out something ridiculous is like the best deal ever! And you'll get to read more ESEX articles on top of that.
I would have wished for some european rewards though. Like the catz lunch reward but instead it's a doner kebab with Ret/Bling/MC at HSC.

I made my way through Amazon registration only to find that I need a credit card. Unlike the US and other countries, credit cards are not a mainstream payment method in the Netherlands, so I don't have one. Is there a way to fund kickstarter projects with something other then a credit card? Something like PayPal, iDeal?

Unfortunately no.
And credit cards are indeed rare in europe. Kickstarter has always been a very american thing and if you want global crowd funding and not just american crowd funding there are far better platforms for that (which allow paypal etc.).
Fortunatly for me, I know a person who owns a credit card and I just begged him to give me his credit card information and permission to charge his bank account. Maybe you know someone with a credit card as well? That's the one workaround if you don't own one yourself. Just invite him/her for dinner or send him/her a present. That way you can usually get access to someones credit card pretty easily.
|
Credit cards are rare in europe ? Well I know Germans like to pay in cash but in France everyone 18+ has a credit card.

Yeah, you're right. It seems to be all over the place in europe. I shouldn't have made conclusions from one country. If you look at the 2013 cencus from the ECB: http://www.ecb.europa.eu/press/pdf/pis/pis2013.pdf?06ec75f7173136eb1186fc5c1e3b2d89 (last page [ANNEX])
Credit card usage seems to be very low in Bulgaria, Germany and Austria. (~15-20%). The rest ist relativly low (~35% e.g. Czech Rep.) to mid (~50% e.g. France). They do like their credit cards in Scandinavia though.
Interestingly, credit cards are rather common in the netherlands (~45% usage), so it seems to be more of a local social environment thing for the previous poster from the netherlands.
It's an interesting topic for sure. Bulgaria, Austria und Germany of course have lots of cultural connections, but I don't know why that reflects in low credit card usage.

That previous poster was me. It's completely true that lots of Dutch people have credit cards. But as far as I know they get them mostly so going abroad is more convenient (to US, France, for example). I have never personally seen someone pay for a meal in a Dutch restaurant using credit card. Also, I think some bank cards (our alternative to credit cards, basically a plastic card that requires digital authentication) count as credit cards as well, that somewhat distorts statistics.
Fact remains: I don't have one (since I rarely go abroad and when I do, my bank card works in most countries. But alas, not for kickstarter ) I will try to find myself a gullible credit card owner and get his credentials
