Could you recommend some reading for an absolute beginner? I am slightly interested and might check it out

There's an appeal to poker as a game where progress means making money. But there's also the fact that the way you make money is basically by finding a big fish (aka a person with a gambling problem or a person who moved up stakes too fast) and basically abusing them, while contributing nothing to the welfare of others.

There's been some times when a much better player at StarCraft wanted to play bet games with me, and I was like "Why would I ever do that?" Poker seems like the equivalent of that except for some reason people are like "hell yeah I wanna lose $500 playing a game with someone who outclasses me. That's what makes it exciting! And what if my 4pool/low pair bluff works!"

do not kid yourself by thinking you contribute to anything by playing SC2 Chef though because you are not, poker is really just more "expensive" of a game

I don't think I am the best person to ask for this. I saw on IveyLeague a very good coach suggested these books:
DUCY by David Sklansky
NLHE Theory And Practice by David Sklansky
Professional NLHE Volume 1 by Matt Flynn
Harrington On Hold'em by Dan Harrington
Fooled By Randomness By Nicholas Taleb
Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller

You are absolutely right and I am well aware of this. I am not deluding myself into thinking I am a genius and will perform better than anybody else. I am just willing to bet all my life on this and I will definitely work non stop towards my goal.

Yeah I stopped in 2010 when it became very clear to me that I had better BATNAs (best alternative to negotiated available), the "available" being pokers.

Fooled by Randomnesss is one of my favorite books of all time and I'm really happy my studies in poker brought me to that. In a lot of ways thats how I branched off into doing esports things too so it had some impact on the course of my life.

Really suggest reading if you're into poker.

I wish you best luck, you will need it! But it is definitly possible, i did a race to 100k as well but in two years. First it seamed impossible hard piece of work but i made it. I was 17 at the time i began and mad it slightly after two years of grinding (6days a week cash games and 1 day mtt's). I didn't use any coach or program. I tried to find my own style by playing 6 tabels micro stacks. I grinded a couple of thousands of hands to finaly be positive in my bankroll everyday.

On wich poker site do you play?

Best of luck

While I understand poker is fun and can make money, Have you thought about a back up plan for the possibility it doesn't work out?

Personally, I enjoy poker, but I think the opportunity cost and risks are high and maybe education would be a better way to earn 100k

Whatever you decide, gl and hf !

No offense, but people who think education is the solid way to go to earn money need to be brought back to the real world.
Nothing is better than anything else, all that matters is that you enjoy it and that you do it well.

finally hearing about ClouD again makes me so happy ;D

I still vividly remember how you explained what "Limoncello" is on TakeTV and how often you were coaching Take and had to drink everytime he lost (or won?!, anyways, awesome drinking game).

are you still working on your other project?

I don't play SC2.

Poker is also basically free (not counting time spent) if you manage your bank-roll properly and get one of those online poker promotional offers for starting. But obviously the people you really want to play with to make money off are also people who are feeding money into the system because they have a problem, and you enable that problem by playing with them. You can say they have a problem with or without me, or think of it as natural selection / stupid tax, but I think it's worth giving thought to whether you really feel that way or you're dismissing it because it's convenient.

I have a job that does contribute to the welfare of others that I do when I am not entertaining myself. The most you can say for full-time poker is that some poker players play on TV some of the time, and it's a fine thing to entertain others, but I don't know if that outweighs the social costs. For people who aren't playing on TV, they produce nothing, which is kinda parasitic. At best you can imagine you're taking money from rich people and distributing it elsewhere, which is pretty wishful thinking.

yeah it's kind of a void point since we could be saying that about soooo many jobs
also I meant poker was more expensive for the recreational players who are feeding the professionals obviously, just like some average SC players are sinking a ton of time into the game to achieve virtually nothing besides entertaining themselves (same thing as poker for rec players)

Most jobs do not provide value to humanity, and many of them actually destroy people's health (which is obviously more important than expendable money on poker), so I don't really get the hate on poker when, for example, the food industry is killing millions of people every year and the entertainment industry is turning kids into retarded puppets. Nobody is forced to do anything, and by the way if you hate people wasting their money then you should be even angrier about the guys donating on twitchtv.

My other project is completed since a long time. Right now I moved to newer endeavours involving whole body change.

Wait... there is a liquidpoker forum? Cloud, you just changed my life. Thank you.
I also recently got into poker again but I suck. I hope you'll continue to post occasionaly, I am extremely interested. A friend of mine makes about 1k a month and I am trying to get to a point where I make more than 0.3-0.5$ an hour (with no success).
