This was MirG's first Open, played on May 31.

Not only did Sjaak win, but he convincingly defeated both Hack AND Panic to do it. (2-0 Hack and 3-1 Panic)

So honestly, his performance in DreamHack Summer may have not even been an outlier (except for maybe beating Hyun, but beating HuK doesn't surprise me at all.) One thing's for certain, he's definitely a player to watch.

So he beat two Koreans a bit over 2 weeks ago? Yeah he definitely didn't come out of nowhere

Yeah even with that other statistic, he still definitely came out of nowhere. Still something to be celebrated though.

I love how fans overblow anything that some random player does.

any mid gm has atleast taken some games of top gm players on ladder, so why not in some crappy tournement.

5-1 score it pretty good and what do you know.. some other players who don't get recognition for performing well whether it be lan or in several online tournaments post similar results as well. Now I haven't been paying much attention for the last 7 months or so, but it is pretty common for little to no research to be had on certain players even when they find results wcs wise.

Because even the top foreigners can hardly take games off Koreans. Mid gm vs. top gm ladder games is quite a bit different from korean professional gamers in a tournament setting and bo3 series.

If anything, this result is great for him because it will give him confidence and inspire him to keep working hard.

Some of these young European players are looking really promising.
