Going on holiday in Sweden

Teamliquid,

My girlfriend and I are looking at holidays for the summer, and we've set our sights on Sweden. We're looking to spend about 1.5-2 weeks there by ourselves, and then we'll travel to the west coast where we will join some of my family on their sail yacht for a few weeks.

The main goal of this blog is to ask some of TL's resident Swedes, or perhaps people who've visited Sweden before for some input. What are some of the places we really have to go see? Do you have any recommendations for accomodation or the likes?

Looking forward to your replies!
Tarias

Back where I used to live, Orsa, they have like this bear park(orsabjornpark.se), which apparently is the biggest bear park in EU. Also, the surroundings look quite good, if you are into northern European kind of nature.

The stuff you gotta see is, imo, Skansen and Gamla Stan (both in Stockholm, I assume you're gonna be there). The waterfront near Gamla Stan is pretty awesome for ice cream.

EDIT: Also Djurgården is awesome, sweet nature and cool museums if you're into that stuff.

Not to mention a ton of stressed out people with backslick and sunglasses on their foreheads, complaining about how the sun hits their eyes

Stockholm is still legit tho, old and new unites in the biggest city of the country

2 years ago I went on a canoe trip with friends of mine through https://www.scandtrack.com/ to Foxen ( nature reserve)
Costs ~ 350 perperson and everything is included. Not a single fee for anything. Tent, canoe, food, gear, and transportation from either hamburg or berlin and you are free to paddle wherever you want, you only have to return 9 days later.
If thats your kind of think I would heavily recommend that (especially because all-in-all its quite cheap if you ask me).
If you have any questions you can ask me :D

I don't know where you have to go on the west coast but the bus back drives right by Göteborg and from there you should be able to get everywhere

Thanks for the tips so far We are very likely going to be in stockholm, Gamla Stam was already on the list, Skansen also looks very nice!

Tufas, that looks pretty awesome. Did you have any cano experience before doing that trip?

Only Kajak in wild water before.
The lakes there are very smooth we only had problems on our first day (heavy wind/rain) when some waves began to form but once you put your gear in the boats it is nearly impossible to turn your boat upside down (we tried and under "normal" circumstances we could not capsize the canoe).

edit: And if you would have done it like a normal human being (unlike us) you would not have tried to cross a lake amidst the heaviest rain/wind 90° sidewards to the waves but stayed close to the shore and just paddeled away with joy and song in your heart.

editedit: you get a short introduction on how not to kill yourself in the wild and on the canoe.

Sounds good, it looks very awesome. If I can convince the girlfriend I'll definitely be doing one of those canoe trips. Found a bunch of Dutch websites offering similar trips

Screw it, just so that you know what you are getting yourself into :D (I could only use pictures without our faces in them .. very limited) About 50% of the time it was neither rainy nor sunny.

Do the two of you enjoy theme parks?
If so, you should consider Gröna Lund (Stockholm's theme park) homepage here. Also, you said you'd be going to the west coast? If that's in Gothenburg, they also have a great theme park called Liseberg, should you have the time to visit that. Otherwise, what the others said, see the sights and enjoy Sweden, really
