Recently I started playing on chess.com as I have always loved the game of chess and been intrigued by its beauty in the seamless flow of logic (science) and intuition (art). I've met lots of cool and interesting people there. One of my friends on the website is a lovely young lady named Alexandra from Kyrgyzstan, which is a small country neighboring Kazakhstan in central Asia. She is 27 years old, funny, beautiful, and sweet. Not only is she the best professional female chess player in her country but she has a solid educational background and position as project manager and cost control specialist at a major mineral/mining company in Kyrgyzstan. I am currently challenging her to a "correspondence" chess game, which means both players have 3 days to make a move.
Although we have chatted previously on a variety of topics, I have yet to really indicate my genuine interest to her. We have discussed chess theory, chess history, politics (Soviet era and modern day), feminism, corruption, pervasive socioeconomic inequality in developing countries, and global warming. These are truly issues worthy of debate and intellectual contemplation; however, I want to make my feelings more overt and our conversations more personal. I know nothing will ever result from our online interactions as she is a few years older than me and we live on opposite sides of the planet, but I absolutely enjoy her e-company because she is such a dedicated, charming, intelligent, and passionate individual. Her adorable looks are only the icing on the cake.
I really don't know what to do right now. I want something "more" even though I know she sees me as a good online friend. I realize there is no point to my desire to be more intimate and personal with her and make those inclinations more apparent to her, but I have a burning desire in my soul to make her feel that she is a very special person.

Distance rarely works unless there is something to preempt it. If it just exists, nothing works since you'll see her once then long for her and the hope in the relationship will die. Chances are it's better if you found someone nearer you or moved nearer her.

Like I said, I don't expect this to go anywhere. But since I happen to be in the proverbial "friend zone" I would just like her to know that I have real feelings for her. Some people will think it's crazy and impossible to love someone who you don't personally know, but from our limited interactions it's clear to me that she is beautiful on the inside and out. I'm aware that this could appear to be more lust than love, but I want to transcend petty definitions. All I know is that I feel a strong magnetic attraction and connection. She makes me blush and feel butterflies in my stomach and magical when she leaves a flirty comment (of course that's how I perceive it when it may just be her nature to be friendly with everyone). If I let this opportunity pass I might regret it for a long time. What I mean by being "intimate" in this situation is basically having the satisfaction of her knowing that I regard her as much more than simply a friend. So intimacy more in the emotional or psychological sense compared to physical.

There is nothing wrong with telling her how you feel, as long as you accept that she might find it uncomfortable and prefer to stop chatting. But you have known her long enough where I feel that won't happen. However, expecting more from her is near impossible, and from experience, not worth it even if she does like you. It is much better if you tell her so you can move on to the next girl that lives closer to you. If she really is a good online friend, she wont let it change anything.
Again from experience, its not worth getting into an online relationship- but online friendship, yes that is very much worth keeping.

@NeuroticPsychosis - I had this situation and then I told the person and the person stopped talking to me but now that it happened i feel like it was a landslide that would have happened eventually.

It's not actually impossible to make a relationship work between you, provided you have the same end goals, and perhaps want to end up in the same country in the future. If not then it would be fruitless. What would telling her how you feel about her accomplish in that case?

You gotta ease her in man.. ask her to skype first so she sees your face properly.. maybe play a game of chess like that and then eventually add a twist - like make it a drinking game - each piece thats taken is a sip of its value (ie 1 sip for pawn, 9 for queens etc.). Its fun.. I've done it before haha. You get hammered quick lol
Just get creative so she likes you.. But make sure your more of a person than just text on a chatroom. With distance the best way you can do that is skype or a phonecall.
If all goes well youll be playing skype strip chess in no time

First off some people might not take kindly to having their pictures posted for them and in such context. Could lead for awkward moments for her. Secondly, chess and starcraft are very related (games in general) so watch out you never know who might be lurking TL.net...

@OP I agree with the posters above. Posting someone's pictures without her permission on a public forum may be a bit too far. I suggest you remove her pictures as she may find out if she uses tineye or some other image searcher.

Uh, I read over your post a few times and you don't actually say whether you know for sure if she is actually single....
If you don't know, that makes the next step in developing the relationship pretty simple I think, lol. Plus, asking her if she is single is like a little hint that you are interested but it's not so much that you can't play it off or leave it vague if you don't get a response you were hoping for. (For example, transitioning into asking about traditional Kyrgyz dating customs or smthng)

You're putting too much stock in this relationship. Talk to her like a normal person, and let the relationship develop naturally. If you become close friends, that's great, but if you make her an idol in your mind, you're only creating stress for yourself. (Although I know it's not easy to not do that.)
