Vortix, the Spanish Zerg, who has dominated the scene since his arrival. In WCS EU 2013 Season 3, we saw Vortix take out many top name players including Stardust, Thorzain, and BabyKnight too, only falling to MAA in the semifinals. In the season finals he fought hard against the Korea Protoss Hero and Oz, taking a map off each, but was not able to make it out of his group. Also at the 2013 Asus Rog North Conn, beat Socke and MMA both 3-2, but lost to Korea heavyweights San and Life. With this record in mind, Vortix looks to still be on top of his game. Alongside these formidable results, let’s not forget he has Dear, HasuObs, and Heromarine all as potential practise partners, and without any other Zergs in the group his chances look high.
Lilbow, the French Protoss, who came almost out of nowhere to take the premier league spot away from Tefel. No many of you probably know much about Lilbow, so let me give you a brief history of his capabilities. He recently took first place of the French Lan, the HF Lan. Though not many big name French players came out like Dayshi, he was able to convincingly take games off of MarineLord, a valuable French Terran to win the tournament. Also another French Tournament, Underdogs Season 4, he was able to capture second, only losing to Dayshi, arguably the best French player currently, first beating him in a BO1, but then losing 3-4 in the finals. Though greatly impressive, it is debatable if he is able to beat players of the caliber in his group. It will be beyond an upset to see him beat Vortix, and even more to make his way out of this group.
ForGG, the Korean Terran, came dashing onto the scene as one of the early converters from Brood War to SCII. ForGG unsurprisingly took out German Zerg Lambo 3-0 in challenger to secure his current position. In terms of other previous tournaments, we have seen him destroy big names like Snute, San, and Jaedong in the Asus Rog Winter 2014, securing a fourth place finish. In IEM Cologne, ForGG fell quite early, beating Hyun 2-0, but losing 0-2 both times versus the eventual winner Liquid HerO. I would personally take this poor result in IEM with a grain of salt as it truly doesn’t show his ability to beat out top name Koreans in the scene. I would almost have to guarantee him getting out of the group if it wasn’t for our next player.
BabyKnight, the Protoss player from Denmark, and teammate of ForGG is our last member of this group. BabyKnight secured his spot in Premier league by taking out the up and coming Russain Zerg Revolver 3-1. In Asus Rog Winter 2014, he was able to beat Alicia 3-0 orinigally in the group stages, but then fell to Solar, and eventually Alicia again, to end his run in the tournament. Previously in HSC VIII, BabyKnight had a great run, beating out HasuObs, Symbol, Dayshi, and HerO, only to lose in the RO8 in a rematch versus Symbol.
In terms of these match ups, Vortix still seems to be on his game, and the new French player Lilbow seems to be little significance in stopping the wrecking force that is Vortix. The more complicated match up, ForGG versus BabyKnight, seems to be more of a tossup. With inner team dynamics, BabyKnight has more than enough potential to beat his teammate ForGG in a best of three. Showing that he can easily take out top Korean players when on his A game, I think BabyKnight will surprise us, but only once. I believe that when BabyKnight and Vortix meet in the winners match, Vortix will keep the win streak going and beat BabyKnight 2-1, and will eventually lose to teammate ForGG, ending his run this season. At the end of the day I think both Vortix and ForGG will make it out of their groups respectively.
Vortix > Lilbow
ForGG < BabyKnight
Vortix > BabyKnight
ForGG > Lilow
ForGG > BabyKnight"
