I love dreaming, I feel like it is an extension of my life, and often it allows me live things I'd never be able to live, to feel things I have never felt and to see things I have never actually seen. Thus, no matter how weird, illogical or horrifying some of them are, I still love them.
Over the years I have written some of my most memorable dreams, and now, I have decided to share them with you. I have a good memory so I was able to write down nearly everything I remember from them, some in great detail, sometimes they take the shape of stories, sometimes they don't make much sense, sending me trough twisted labyrinths and dark dungeons, however, they are almost always entertaining in some way or another.
The purpose of writing these down and sharing them is twofold, I get to exercise both my memory and my writing abilities and I get to, hopefully, entertain some of you and get some feedback on my writing style.
So, here is the very first dream I have written down, it is from about 3 years back, January 2011, I usually name each of them, so here goes.
The Cathedral of Darkness
I was making my way through a giant room. Large thick columns where holding up massive arches, all of them sustaining the roof. I could see the columns and roof where painted in beautiful depictions of the cosmos and of celestial beings. But I could hardly make out details, a thick and oppressive darkness hung heavy over the room, dark enough to shroud details from my sight, but not enough to leave me blind.
As I was making my way trough I could feel a blade in my hand, long, about half a meter, not very thick or wide, it felt light and easy to swing, it was smooth and clean.
Behind me, just a couple of feet away I could feel and hear the footsteps of a second person, I knew in my mind it was my partner, I had no knowledge however of who he was, why he was with me at all.
As we advanced the darkness around us ominously curled and thickened, forming a sort of tunnel, pointing us in one direction. The columns, the roof, all became distant almost indistinguishable.
As I was running I could remember great battles I had fought to get here, against bulky giants, more than 15 meters high, to vicious machines slashing left and right with their saws.
Eventually we reached the end of a tunnel, a circular room, held up by 8 columns, at the top was a dome. The darkness had subsided just enough to make out some details, the dome, walls and columns where painted in the same angelic style. However it was different here, the shapes where deformed and twisted, they no longer looked harmonious, they looked vicious, almost ready to pounce.
At the center of the grand room, where the floor used to be was now a thick dark mass of liquid. Bubbling slowly but ominously, as if it had a rhythm of its own. The darkness now drew closer, almost as if it was nudging us forward, towards the black lake. As the details on the walls faded away they became somehow more clear, the figures became even more savage, their eyes seem to come alive, watching our ever movements.
As we drew closer to the lake, a figure appeared before us. It looked like a woman, but there was something wrong, I felt it wasn't real. I started to run towards it and raised my blade to attack, when I drew close enough I struck slashing to the right side, and side stepping to the left. I saw my partner hit as well. And as blood started to gush out of the girl, she faded away.
At the same time the room began to shake violently, the pictures on the wall seemed to come alive, the darkness swirled around. The lake churned and as the tremors reached its peak a giant creature emerged from the black liquid. Its massive bulk almost filling the lake, the creature faced our way with a huge gaping mouth wide open, from the mouth thousands of dagger like fangs protruded.
From around the room tentacles broke the surface, smashing trough the floor with strength.
One had grabbed my partner and, despite my best efforts to free him, he was tossed into the gaping maw of oblivion.
I went into action advancing towards the creature, blade in hand, slashing furiously left and right, dodging tentacles and debris along the way. As I reached the mouth and raised my sword ready to attack, I felt a violent kick in my back. The creature had lured me in and pushed me with a tentacle. I was now trapped in its mouth, and the creature started to drink in liquid, I fought and struggled against the current but to no avail, I was getting swallowed, going deeper and deeper and darker, until, I was left alone to die.
As death's dark embrace slowly took over, everything felt so distant, I felt disconnected from it all, and in that moment I opened my eyes to the sight of my dimly lit room, I was alive and safe.
Final word.
I hope you all enjoy this odd little journey into my mind, please leave some feedback and, if its mostly positive I'll consider posting more of these in the future. After I finish posting the ones I already have written down I can't guarantee what length they will be or at what frequency I'll post, its all up to what I dream and its length.
