I know why Terran/Zerg players do this “I’M GOING TO PLAY PROTOSS AND GET GM CUZ SO EASY”
But I don’t exactly understand what the desired outcome, or point is.
I’m pretty sure most pro gamers can switch races and *should* fall on their feet quite well. It’s like an MMA fighter dropping/gaining weight to change division. Sure, some things (I guess with an MMA example many things are different, but I digress) are different, but overall the experience is the same.
Demuslim has great Protoss.
TheOgnis had great Zerg (iirc, it might have been toss actually)
Taeja does some pretty fucking good Protoss and REALLY good Zerg.
I just don’t understand what they are aiming to achieve.
If they do achieve the “goal”:
"Yay I’m GM with protoss HAR HAR DAT WAZ EZ CLEARLY IMBA AMIRITE?
David Kim is not going to magically snap his fingers and rise off his golden seat and say “HOLY FUCK THAT RANDOM GUY JUST GOT GM WITH ANOTHER RACE! IMBA IMBA IMBA!!!!”
No, he’s going to say the exact same fucking thing I’ve said, and concur with the fact that generally, all players will take some semblance of their skill level into the other race they try to play.
Heck it’s even evident at lower levels. Lots of gold/plat/dia players I know will sometimes offrace for the fun of it - and they will normally hover around the same region of skill.
If they don’t make it:
"Yeah well if I had some more time I was really busy…" (or insert alternate excuses). Then what? Oh right, nothing.
Nothing is going to change, there are some fundamental things at the core that cannot be changed any more (looking at you, warp gates). As the balance-cycle moves yes there are issues, as it’s a common facet particularly in strategy games.
We do have some troubling signs in PvT at the moment, but other than that things aren’t too shabby at all and to be honest I’m quite impressed by the work Blizzard has done.
It just so happens that many Terran players seem really good at balance whining, which is why there’s this incredible stigma around about playing Protoss currently, which really pisses me off. You know what’s gonna really knock the socks off Terrans reading this (given that technically I’m a Protoss player) - is that I actually found the Oracle buff really odd and not needed.
It actually really saddened me the other day to go on r/Starcraft and see a post from someone talking about how they hate “feeling like shit” because they “play Protoss”, and that every time they went on the sub, the constant battering from the community about Protoss being “easy” is just frustrating to deal with.
This could be a person taking way too much on board from an online community - but no player should be afraid to go hang out with a community from the game he/she adores and be scorned or at least feel like shit for playing the way they want to play.
Many people who know me will realise how weird this sounds given my disdain for r/Starcraft, but just needed to mention that
It’s a fucking sad state of affairs when people lose a game, then bully/harass/indict someone simply because they enjoy playing a particular race in the game.
And this last bit goes for everyone: lighten the fuck up.
Be passionate, but be respectful of your fellow gamer. You might question why mainstream doesn’t respect gaming properly yet? Maybe it’s because you can’t respect fellow players yourself. Lighten, the fuck, up.
