Let's keep this short. I'm from Iceland and I plan to become a computer scientist, however what I've heard from my brother and other people is that the universities in Iceland aren't good in that category not terrible but not that good ... They make studying tedious and turn interesting subjects to boring tasks.

I'm on my third year of *high school* In Iceland that means that after a year and a half I go to the university. (different school system)

I have a unique opportunity to go move in with my father that moved to Norway a couple of months ago, finish the school there and then have the knowledge in Norwegian to study in a Norwegian university because all their lectures are in Norwegian.

But in Norwegian high schools all lectures there also are in Norwegian, so there I will have to learn Norwegian courses on par with the students, and my knowledge of that language is very little.

Impossible now, then a good university later
Safe now, then a relatively okay university later

My parents are really pressuring me to go to Norway, and all I want is an unbiased opinion to help me with this life changing decision. Thanks in advance.

If I were you I would move in with your father. This is a one chance in a lifetime opportunity. Seize this opportunity. If you don't I'll know you'll regret it later in life. Who knows anything can happen there maybe you might meet someone special in your life and etc. You have nothing to lose but more to gain here. Look at the bigger picture here.
My dream is to tear up your dream.

How far do you wanna go?
'caus if you go, you have to go 100% and go for it.
So basicly, do you really wanna do this? Then do. If you hesitate you (kinda?) made a choice already unconsiously(?)?

But a job is everything in this world imo and if it really is so much better, then i would go.

edit:
Also, you don't move to a new country alone with no basis ... You still move in with your father who will help you probably. So it's not like you go alone with nothing!

If you work hard early you'll (likely) have an easier life later.

Not that I know it for sure, but I think it is easier for you guys to learn Norwegian than any other language, because of the common roots. I know a couple of Islandic families here, and they seem to be doing well. If you put in couple of hard weeks with norwegian, I'm sure it will pay off.
Though its a though choise... Got any questions, feel free to ask me

Delayed gratification for the win! I'd do it. Working hard for a "relatively" short period of time now might have enormous impact on the latter ~60 or so years of your life.

Yeah man, I can read basic text just from having studied some Danish and Icelandic.

Norges største tilbud på nett: nyheter fra Norge og verden

I'm probably wrong but let me try (no google translate)

Norway biggest offer (that's new, or net? (as in web)): new things from norway and the world!

storste (stærsta in icelandic) tilbud (tilboð in icelandic) Pa (is also in danish) nett (no idea) nyheter (nyheder in danish) fra (from, frá in icelandic) verden is "world" in danish, so I guess it's the same.

I just copy pasted a random line from a news site that was pretty basic, but it's hard when you're hit in the face with words like: avlastningsforeldre (foreldre is parents right?) taushetsbelagte, etterforskningen ... wat.

Don't how I can pass a Norwegian course that is meant for people that were born in Norway, but it's clear that I'm just getting some bitchbutterflies in my stomach, I think it's clear what I have to do.

Move to Norway. You can't even imagine how quickly a person picks up new language if he / she is surrounded only by people speaking it. Plus, as far as I know, this is the same language type and Icelandic might be even harder than Norwegian.

Your English seems pretty good, and there are some fine universities in the UK - have you considered that?

Having said that, I still think you should go to Norway if the prospect of finding your way into a new social environment doesn't frighten you too much. Going to a different country is a one of a kind experience, and it's likely you would be annoyed with yourself later if you didn't take it.

Yeah I know English pretty well but, it's just that the opportunity to go to Norway is just because my father moved there a couple of months ago. It's to much of a financial burden for my family to send me to the UK.

I'd go to Norway. Pretty rare opportunity and you'd probably learn a lot about a lot of things.

Well I spoke to the student counsellor and he said I should start at the beginning of the next semester at the end of the summer, he said that's what he would advice his son to do that, if he was about to do the same.

Edit. So I think I'll go there then.

Don't worry about the language barrier! I'd suggest the Norway option. Even if you don't get the hang of it after a year or so (but you probably will!), then you will have all these social benefits like asking your teacher for more help, or making easy friends who are willing to help you understand the homework (due to language barrier)!

I might be biased: I have a dream that I will probably move to Europe/Asia and die there!
