Hey - I'm super new to Starcraft 2. I've been playing for about a week, and I've played against bots exclusively. I've watched a few of Day[9]'s Newbie Tuesdays and I've started watching FilterSC's HotS Bronze to Masters. That is pretty much all of my experience with Starcraft 2.
Anyway, I'd love to have a buddy or a few buddies who are around the same skill and experience level as I am to learn the game together. I'm basically just looking for some friends who have a common interest in SC2.
Would this be a good place to ask for that? If there are better places, I'd appreciate some pointers. Thanks!

Good luck! But most important. Play to have fun! Improving is fun. Winning is fun, but dont (necessarily) play to win! Otherwise the game might become frustrating as the game tries to even you at 50% win and ppl nowadays are pretty good.

I don't know about the NA server, but the EU server has a couple chat channels that are perfect for what you are looking. Maybe some people here can recommend one, or you can search on the internet or in-game for them. Some people complain about SC2 being a lonely game, but it really depends completely on yourself. It can be a very social experience if you put a bit of effort in to it.

Practice partner thread for finding friends.
As for guides, I would recommend reading as many as you can of the following: Cecil's or Ver's are great. Ver's a little older but timeless wisdom.
Vaderseven's Mechanics Guide or the other one for that approach.
