Hello to all of you,

I am going to post an email from a colleague and friend of mine who has been struck with all kinds of cancer for most of his life:

I am feeling not so good/very weak the recent weeks; my sickness is giving me a hard time; it is very critical and in a serious stage now; current weight 48kgs
As most of you know, I have a chondrosarkom (malign bone tumour/cancer, G1/G2 stadium) with various metastases in my right pelvis bone, left/right lung, head forefront and, behind my teeth;
Recent radio therapy on my right pelvis bone 25 sessions@50gram and recent chemo therapy with ifosfamid was unsuccessful and did not stop the growth of the tumour at all;
Currently I am waiting for news, if I will receive a chemo therapy with another medication which I am really hoping and counting on; my mental strengths/forces are damaged and my will to beat this cancer is slowly decreasing; but nevertheless I am trying to stay strong;

If you have any suggestions/ideas/alternative medicine or recommendations of health institutes specialized in cancer respectively specialized doctors, please let me know at any time; I appreciate your whole support;

He is currently in Germany for treatment. So if you know anyone, any institution or have any other ideas on his request, please tell me. It will be much appreciated.

Best bet as per any country in Europe is to find the biggest University Hospital in the country since they tend towards the largest concentration of specialists, potential for clinical trials (if conventional treatment fails) and most up to date scanning. Your friend unfortunately has not responsed to 1st line treatment, and disease is too widespread for surgery.

A quick google brings up Heidelberg University Hospital and University Medical Center Freiburg for oncology as your best bets.

Disclaimer is I'm not familiar with Germany at all but they sound like the UK equivalents of Oxford / Addenbrookes / Kings / Imperial / UCH etc.

I'll give you my crackpot answer. Take it with a grain of salt.

Diet: 80/10/10 Raw Vegan, as much fruit as you can. 3 liters of water per day. Average diet is around 2800-3000 calories per day. This will give you roughly 40-50g protein. If your body cannot handle so much food in the beginning, gradually build up to the 2800 mark and MAKE SURE TO EXERCISE.

Be sure to research before beginning this plan. It may cost upwards of $10/day if you cannot buy wholesale fruits and veggies. Do not cook the food. If you cannot afford to follow this plan, attempt a non-strict pescetarian diet. 80/10/10 is a tough diet because fruit metabolizes quickly. So if you eat a lot of something that digests slowly, and then begin your fruit for the day, you will have digestion problems and potential build up due to the slower digestion getting in way of the fruit.

If you have a negative reaction follow pescetarian (vegetarian+fish) as closely as possible.

Exercise: Light daily exercise including situps, pushups, jumping jacks and squats.

Lifestyle: Sleep when feeling tired, in addition to normal nightly rest. Get as much sun as possible. Meditate daily 30 minutes on the root chakra for one week, then move to the solar plexus (stomach) chakra. Continue with the solar plexus for the full second week. Then move to the heart chakra (lung region) and pineal gland - third eye for week 3. Continue meditation practice as long as tumor remains, adding other chakras and meditation strategies when desired, in addition to the proposed strategy.

Do not hold waste in your system for any reason. The breath accounts for the majority of toxic expulsion in the body. The other minor toxic expeller is the tears, so cry when necessary.

Release your fears, desires, and attachments/addictions. Allow your ego to dissolve and treat others with compassion.

If you fail at any time to follow the practice do not let it affect you. It's okay.

Find a cancer center that has doctors who understand the value and role of compassion in the treatment process. Compassion is a vital part of the healing process. Use the placebo effect to as much advantage as you can. That is, believe you are healing as much as possible.

I am sorry I cannot provide specific doctor or treatment center suggestions. Cyroch's friend fighting!
Please PM me with any songs you like that you think I haven't heard before!

Oh well, I figured I better use all the opportunities at my disposal. And seeing that TL is a pretty big community, maybe someone has experience with that kind of thing and knows a specialist or a renowned institution.

He said it was "crackpot". If there was some magical lifestyle that existed outside or radiation/chemotherapy that could cure cancer, we'd know about it. Be that as it may, if you're not responding to chemotherapy and likely facing imminent death, what harm is there in trying something? None of these suggestions are likely to cause harm, especially cramming as much fruit as you can stand down your gullet.

I actually have to agree. I am not a big fan of these alternative diet/meditation/praying things. But when you are fighting a disease like this for most of your life, and it finally seems you are losing, all that is left to do is try everything you haven't tried before. It sure is better than just giving up.

I want to honor this strength and dedication of his (sorry for pathos). That is why I as everyone I know (and don't know in case of TL) for their insight. Be it a specific doctor/hospital or be it even the wackiest of alternative ideas. I am grateful for anything. Therefore, thanks for the replies and PMs so far. I appreciate it!!!

1. By trying something that is utter bullshit you waste your time that you could use for something else, even other alternative therapies that are not known to be completely useless. 2. It's up to medics to tell if they are likely to cause harm. Fruit is not a panacea, fruit can cause harm in certain cases. 3. Giving a desperate person a false hope is beyond pathetic.

Oh, and @ OP: I am not a qualified medic nor do I live in Germany, so I can only wish best luck to your friend, I hope he gets better.

1. True
2. True as well
3. Normally I would agree, but in this case I have to say it is fine. To elaborate. He is 35. He had all different kinds of cancer since he was 20. He lost a leg to the disease. He ALWAYS maintained a positive outlook and kept fighting. Now, no treatment seems to be working anymore. This is the last straw, the last attempt to try for a miracle that most probably will not be happening. We all know that. But taking this last hope of someone who fought most of his life would imo be wrong. He does not want to give up. And he should not get the feeling that his friends are giving up on him. I have my fair share of experience with people who died from cancer. For example, my grandfather died from lung cancer, and he lived a year and a half after the doctors gave him 2 months. All of us, including himself knew that there was no chance to get better. But he clinged to hope and kept fighting and enjoyed every single minute of the life he had left. And I am very sure that without that he wouldn't have lived as long as he did.

Thanks for your empathy!

If you are serious about alternative treatment, look towards large universities and participate in clinical trials

This is by far your best bet in terms of an alternative treatment which won't be wasting your time

Man.. I'd say spend as much time as possible with your friend because you might loose him rather soon. This will also make him happy, which is also very important.

Medically wise I'd go with experimental treatments seeing that the conventional failed. But I haven't heard of any treatment able to deal with methastasis, even experimental.

Stay strong and hope for the best.

i think everyone here is old enough to judge whether something is bullshit or not. so could you keep your bullshit to yourself?

dude, sometimes "utter bullshit" works for some people, ok? how could you judge everything he says just because you dont believe in it? how many studies "meditation's effect on physical healing" have you read? well, none? how many studies on "the doctor's mindset on his patient's healing" have you read. well, none? how many studies on "your own mindset's effect on healing" have you read. uh, none? how about studies about diet? etc etc

(obviously there are no studies about most of these subjects cause they are foreign concepts to our culture)

look, you are a judgemental jackass. i think you watched too much christopher hitchens and try to be sharp now, dont you? but you're not sharp, buddy. quite the contrary. you seem quite dim the way you argue with people.

EDIT: cause i'm fairly sure you won't really understand what i'm saying, i wanna clarify this a bit.
look, you CAN argue with people. you can come and say "hey man, i wouldnt advise trying these kind of things, he'd be better off sticking to current medicine and otherwise trying to enjoy his time as much as possible instead of meditating" or whatever. but dont fucking come and call other people's stuff bullshit. my god, what's going on inside of you. and now dont come with stupid arguments like "lol proof of burden is on you". if that guy is left behind by doctors at one point, his best shot is "placebo effect". and dude, i heard some sick sick storys. you wouldnt believe what kind of miracles can happen. soooo keep your bullshit away from a very serious thread, please <3

this thread is about life and death. no need for judgemental kids thinking they're super sharp and know it all <3

you are putting science on a magical pedestal, it seems. actually i'm not even sure if you're refering to science, but either way i disagree with you.

it rather seems like you don't know what you are defending. Even a quick search shows that a raw vegan diet can't provide the essential Vitamin B12. Doesn't sound like the diet for a severely sick person.

Edit: unfortunately I don't have anything really positive to say but please before you suggest any alternative treatment make sure it doesn't harm your friend.

opterown is right.
Be responsible with this.
I'm an MD, but I would not dare give advice on an area so sensitive as oncology, much less not being my specialty.
The only currently proven things regarding chondrosarcoma are chemo and radiotherapy and resective palliative surgery.
I believe it's downright irresponsible advicing torwards things science has not proven and even more so on such a sensitive issue.

Still, I wish you all and everyone affected nothing but the best of luck and much strength. I sincerely hope your friend beats this fucking disease.
Seriously, fuck cancer. It's one of the things nobody should have to live... I hope to see a definitive cure for it in my lifetime.

Thank you. Entirely ridiculous post.

In response to the OP I don't think that anyone here has more knowledge than an oncologist who has access to all of your friends medical history, tests etc...

There is a pretty renowned oncologist who is called doctor Piroth in Düsseldorf. I met him myself and he seems to be a very reasonable and competent man. That being said he couldnt save a member of my family. Still he was pretty much right with every prognosis, so he definitely has a huge understanding of the thematics.
Other than that the uniklinik Heidelberg is pretty well known.

Best of luck to your friend
