Meru United States219 Posts October 23 2013 03:25 GMT #1 Say hello to my little friend :D After a year of just watching tournaments and playing only campaigns/ AIs, I finally decided that it’s time. It’s time to actually learn and play this game. The world’s hardest game ever created. I’ve never laddered in HotS because I think it’s terrifying. I know I’m not expected to do well since I’m new, but for some stupid reason I’m still scared. It’s an irrational fear, as if pushing the look for match button = a giant monster’s gonna pop out of my monitor and eat me. After going to IEM at NYCC, I finally said “well fuck it, I’ll just have to get over it and just do it.” And this week, I did! >>Click Here for IEM pictures, and why I love every single one in the SC community.<< So far it’s just been baby steps, but it’s really better than the 0 games I was playing before, right? I haven’t played all my placement matches yet because they are still terrifying, but I am starting to learn from Plat/Diamond/Masters friends. I’m playing some unranked games also, just so that I can at least play against some humans. So it begins! Week 1 Race: Terran unranked cuz scardy cat ._. Good: My mechanics aren’t as bad as I thought, and my Macro is pretty good. Bad: Can’t scout and macro at the same time, very little map awareness (scouting and paying attention to minimap), have no sense of timing. I went into the “adopt a newbie” group and actually found some very nice people. For the next couple weeks I think I’m going to learn 1 or 2 builds, and just practice that. Currently I just build whatever I remember to build… I don’t know any build orders because I can never remember them and because they don’t make sense. I need to do some homework and learn builds, have a sense of timing for the 7/9/12 marks. Goal for next update: Learn to execute the reaper FE, and PLAY THE DAMNED PLACEMENT MATCHES!... Good or bad. I can do it. If I keep saying I can do it, it’ll work… right? P.S. Billy the marine... Never forget ♥

Billy the marine also looks pretty cool xD Wish you luck on your journey through the ladder! Just remember to always have fun, as much as you can! In learning build orders, just try and teach yourself what the unit counters are (if you don't know them yet). Thats probably the best way to start familarizing with builds. Knowing that if a Zerg builds Roach's that if you build Mauraders you will have the edge etc is better than practicing say a hellion opening build vs Zergs who just keep roach rushing you. Also keep that passion up you don't have to play the game either to enjoy SC2 which is what i do. I haven't played a game since probably February, but i haven't missed any tournaments this year Im still a fan of watching :D

Kommatiazo United States579 Posts October 23 2013 15:20 GMT #8 It is exceedingly common at the early levels to lose to silly stuff when you're technically playing better than your opponent. I recently coached a bronze Protoss friend of mine on how to play, working on his mechanics and such, and he went 1-7 while I was with him. It proved to be a great lesson in letting losses pass right over you and to hit "play again" immediately to get back into it macroing and practicing your mechanics. Eventually you'll hit a point where your mechanics get you through all your early game, low-league woes and you'll shoot past the players who "improve" by cheesing each an every game. Hang in there! Can't wait for Saturday! We'll play some good games and get some good learning in! I'm so stoked.

mizU United States12125 Posts October 23 2013 19:45 GMT #10 you don't have to jump into ranked as soon as possible now with unranked, i think the only reason you'd want to play ranked is because you're comfortable with how you're playing and want to know how you compare to other people that being said, terran is the best race woohoo (glhf :D)
