I'm just going to make this short because I'm pooped and I wanna go back to bed. I was running this morning through the park and found this kitten huddled under some plants mewing like crazy. He had no marks on him, nor collar, nor bell or anything, and there was absolutely no one around (it was like 5:30 am), so I picked him up and took him back home.

I already have one cat and I really don't want another one. I'm making up some signs that I'm going to post in the park soon. Hopefully, he just got away from someone and wasn't purposefully abandoned.

Are stray cats so odd where you live? There's a metric fuckton of them here, some people feed them every now and again, but that's about it. Some do get taken in, but a lot of them stay street cats forever.

They are relatively rare in north america afaik. at least the US and Canada in my experience (atleast outside of big cities).

I remember visiting Cairo once and they were EVERYWHERE

Did you poke around the neck area to see if there is a microchip or whatever?? Just because there is no collar or anything doesnt mean he's not someone's outdoor cat. There are a lot of really fucking stupid cat owners who do that and they're indistinguishable from strays.

I think the fact that it looks so young probably means it is a stray though. Someone's outdoor cat wouldnt sit there mewing like that. They're not super common like in some other countries, but I see them from time to time in NJ. My gf always begs me to take in the ones near my place and near her office haha

If the signs dont get you anywhere, I'd post on fb to see if friends want him first. If not, you can check elsewhere (if you have a somethingawful account, go to pet island and throw it out there and see if someone wants). Failing that, i'd just start looking up no kill shelters now so you have them as a last resort.

You could always keep him too so your cat has a buddy! I am sure you won't regret it

people who rescue animals are always swell in my book. Good on you man!

There are quite a few in my neighborhood in the bronx, although I think its because a few of my neighbors kept feeding them and giving them boxes to sleep in, so they multiplied.

. Good on your for making signs dude, that is the right way to do it. If the signs don't work out, Hawk gave good advice earlier, but I would also suggest the Humane Society; so long as they don't euthanize any strays that can't find a home, then it's not a bad place to give the cat up. In the end though, it's pretty hard not to get attached to kitties cuz they coot

Yeah that's a good idea. I'd google the local one whatever is by you just to make sure it is a no kill since a quick look made it seem like it can vary. Usually if you just google no kill shelters you can find a list for your region. I found a rabbit recently and did that, but ended up giving it to my crazy bunny lady friend

Ya I'm definitely nervous about taking him to any sort of shelter or anything. I'll give my signs in the park a couple of days, and then I'll start posting online. Maybe throw up a couple of signs in some churches too.

Also targe, yeah it was awful. He started underneath my seat, but then climbed up to my shoulders as the drive went on. But then I had to slam on my brakes to stop at a light and he jammed his claws into my shoulder. Mother of God, that hurt. All my yelling made him retreat back under the seat, poor guy.

wtf... "no kill shelter"?? really? suppose that means there are "kill shelters" as well although the contradiction would be too obvious in that wording so i guess theyre just called "animal shelters". pretty sad to think that perfectly healthy animals would be killed just because they cant find a new home for them. over here only animals that are fatally ill can be euthanized.
anyways, that kitten looks adorable and seems to be the cuddly type too, I wouldnt let go of it if the other cat accepts it. Its much better for cats to live with another one anyways, almost a necessity if kept in the house imo. If the other cat can go outside its not as important, but if its a housecat id seriously consider keeping the cat as a companion if they get along with each other.

c) came home on my shoulder to look impossibly cut so my parents would let me keep him.

Shame you're probably not in my area (Seattle), or else I'd be glad to take him. My daughter has been wanting a tuxedo cat for awhile. She always plays with my moms tuxedo cat when we visit.
