. I'd like to write an acadamic-style paper on NonY. My intention is to gather facts (winrates, maps, builds) about NonY's style to discover new things about Protoss. I will do so by investigating his perspective on RTS (through direct quotations) and his play-style (through build orders and in game decision making) and relating this information to inferences and speculations made about his approach and how that compares to what we know of him as a person outside of the game.
If anyone has NonY information/vods/quotes that they feel/think either represents hisplaystyle or personality, iI greatly appreciate if he/she posts that in this blog/thread. (hmm, this paper may turn out to be bad and "madlib-ish)
I want to keep it general and lay-men friendly. That means less detailing and more personal flavour. It will have a formal structure, because that's easy to work with, but I will take liberties in regards to normal academic standards.
TL Mods, I suspect you're there because you've shut down my last thre eblogs. can i please have the title changed so it reads "Seeking NonY info 4 my paper," or better yet, something similar but more congruent with site standards and ideals.

800 words to depict the stylistic pattern and detailing? You are going to go beyond that with ease.

no detailing. But thanks for that verb. I will add that to the OP. It's hard to even "cut out my work" so to speak
My type writer converts coal into jet fuel.

a skeleton? what class is this for
fwiw most of the 'i wanna write about esports/progamer for my class' blogs have been really awful, both as far as the idea and execution.

The skeleton is the simple and specific information. Winrate % in different MU's on different maps. To accomplish this, I will need to know all of the maps and all of the match ups. Oh my god. that is not easy...
The skeleton is of secondary concern. My primary concern is the fleshed-out human (to continue the analogy) . This is a portrait of a gamer. I'm looking to see what the player uses to accomplish what he or she does.
To clarify statistics: basic information is the skeleton ------ verbs and adjectives that make a portrait of the gamer is the "fleshed out" human.
So yeah... not sure what i'm going to answer.
Since no one voted i'm going to do it on Puck!
Is a title change too much to ask? I want puck info now. This is a huge project. Kudos for all the people who make content.. wow.

what is this paper for though?? like im not seeing much besides like freshman writing that it would serve much of a purpose
if youre trying to do a portrait on the life of a progamer, why would map stats matter?? it is kinda hard to give advice without knowing that ifrst question

It's really tough to write papers on people that don't have much already known/written about them. Maybe you could instead come up with a pro player to interview. Part of the project would be all about the types of meaningful questions you ask, and the rest would be piecing together a narrative about the gamer based on his interview responses.
You should come up with a thesis first -- what core idea are you aiming at? It would be too boring to simply list facts about his life and career. It would be sonewhat more exciting to, I dunno, say, compare a Protoss pro gamer's career and ups/downs and outlook on the game with a famous chess player, or something. That's probably an awful idea but the overall point is that whatever you write, it should go beyond the elementary school-style book reporting of facts.

Should just write about a progamer's life in general, that's easy as hell.

Do Nony. Quite interresting personality, very open about the way he approaches the game and why he does what he does. Has a BW History, is a genius when it comes to inventing build orders. All his strength, everything that makes him great, is his downfall aswell. Can get into terrible mindsets, is not a player to deal with new situations on the fly. Overthinks the game, can get a read on the opponent by 50 gas that is mined too late, will make that read even if the gas is late just because of a bad play of his opponent.
edit: Or go ahead and do Puck, he is a pretty blank paper to me, will be nice to get a better grasp on him.

This paper is to learn. The French verb essayer translates to “to try” so, I use it as a structure to test and form ideas and find reasons to find information.

Thank you. This will be a combination of psychology and Starcraft 101. Perhaps I will watch the lectures from Berkeley for reference.
The thesis I have in mind is something like this “*noun* is a *adverb* successful progamer with a *adjective* style due to his *adjective, and adjective* (approach, mindset, skillset)
Simple stuff. I’m making a salad but I’m choosing the garden where I plant my lettuce with care. I just want to do the usual but go as deep as I can and with as much information as I can.

hell is not easy. If you have the time, and I don’t expect this obviously because you’ve already given me advice, maybe tell me how you’d approach this on nony?

Ok, I will do NonY. That's a perfect idea. He is well known, so are his characteristics as a player and a human. Also that's so good "everything that makes him great is his downfall as well." might have to steal that, or maybe you ough to write one??
I also like how he majored philosophy.
It will be easy to critique too because everyone is aware of some nony fact or another. (right?) That will keep it honest, and it will be a good place to start because you can easily get his opinion on the State of the Game and stuff.
Yours was an excellent post, thanks.

Thanks, Sated. I didn't know streams had descriptions like that. That's very good. I don't know if i have the time for this project anymore though. I found other things i must write about.

As with most thesis/essay-like things, try to define your scope early on and stick with it. Otherwise you'll wander off, touching on all sorts of interesting subjects but never delivering a clean and distilled final product.
In short: what is the main Question that you want to answer in your essay?

check out the nony games and interviews from TSL 2. They are pretty good and he also gives some insightful interviews
