So lately I have been trying to reinvent my "gaming identity" (as cringy as that sounds) by taking a step back and asking myself why I am playing X game. For the longest time, pretty much as long as I can remember I have stopped playing games for fun and played them for a sense of achievement that my real life lacked due to bad planning, terrible work ethic and back luck, this quickly caused further real life problems and as most of you probably know actually succeeding in gaming is a one in a billion chance. This has lead me to where I am now, going back to university and focusing on being a part of the gaming culture instead of trying to succeed as a "pro" gamer.

So that leads me to my current problem, after taking a competitive break and playing some MMO's I have started to realize that I have a very skewed opinion on what games I find fun and what games I play because they are "the better game" for example, I love Dota 2, the game is beautiful it has tons of depth the replay and in game ticket and item system are amazing, I honestly cannot say enough great things about the development of Dota 2 and due to this I jumped on the Dota bandwagon and over 2 years was bombarded with LoL is bad and I took it on faith because from a design perspective Dota 2 clearly has more up to date esports features and is overall better polished.

But then comes my next point, despite all this, after my recent introspection into what I wanted from gaming I found out 2 things, I really enjoy MMO's, so I resubbed to WoW while awaiting wild star, and I really just don't have fun playing Dota 2 or Sc2 even though the last 3-4 years I have been bombarded with play these games or you are a noob. I recently started a foray into ARAM on League and had tons of fun then I thought why I don't I try a few games as well, after an hour or two I realized "welp I enjoy League more than Dota from a game play perspective". And I do, I enjoy the lack of turn rate, I enjoy the scaling of spells and the zoomed out camera, I enjoy the fast pace and the short games. The worst part about this is I felt bad for liking League and felt I needed to crawl back to my steam begging Dota 2 to take me back.

I still haven't shaken this feeling that I should be playing Dota 2/Sc2 over League/WoW but I am really starting to wonder if something like this could happen to me in something I value so much what other parts of my life am I missing out on and messing up based on preconceived notions...

Play whatever you want man. No one is going to chop your head off for playing league. You shouldn't care about which one is "the better game", which is a silly thing in itself. Just have fun

I kinda know what you are talking about, but if youre not having fun playing videogames then I feel like you are missing the point.. lk I play modern warfare 2 more than black ops 2 and gears 3 rather than judgement because I think that they are the better games. I dont see why you should force yourself to play x game over y game if youre not going to have fun with it

I really do not think in the first place you should get into the lol vs sc2vs dota2 hate wars.Games that you play at home are purely for fun.The fact that some people are trolling forums with the hate should not change your oppinion.I agree with you on the matter that aram in lol is very fun since the summoners rift map gets boring and difficult really quit.Heck aram was the only thing i played when I played lol.Also as a casul gamer it is quite normal to get bored of a game after many years of play.

that's why I always try out other games before saying which is better, then it's much easier to point out which is better at what.
For example, I love LoL because of the ARAM as well (it's so imbalanced sometimes but the action is always there), also I have tonnes of friends and my girlfriend are playing. Buying new champion is pretty exciting too.
Dota 2 is quite good but falls off disappointing when I realise how poorly done the UI has done. I still think there can be a few major improvement there. It also takes so long to find a game.
After playing HoN in the open beta, I felt both lol and dota2 are extremely lacking in the customisation area.

Well I've always played the games but I usually went in with my opinion preformed for example I played a lot of LoL because friends did but always did it begrudgingly regardless of the fact that in retrospect I always had fun doing it, then I would go play Dota 2 and not have fun but think it must be me and not the game because this game is good and fun, everyone on the internet agrees. I think the point I was missing is personal taste plays a huge factor, just because X community has good points doesn't make them a better game from the players perspective. Some people are perfectly happy playing Tetris.

There was a lot of "I want the cool kids to like me" for me in gaming so I would join the "cool" communities and play the games based off that instead of what I actually found fun.

im the same way and played planet side 2. guess what starcraft is NOT a game like DOTA or LoL. it' is like when your a kid you mom says "dont play with the chess board its not a toy here" thats toy she is giving you is LoL, when you get older and ask "why do i HUMANS play games" Americans like Cheap thrills like what goes on in LoL. Sc2 has essence and pure skill. so two people ages 10 to 100 who never met can say "who has the better brains, and nerves" who is "just better" at what makes you GOOD AT GAMES. like reaction time and thinking ahead.

The platform for Sc2 is a more rewarding experience that you will return to unless you become satisfied with "i can only be this good for this long, Time to play games for fun again DERP DERP like you have time in your life for games AT ALL when you have been putting off the more important things in life to be as good as you were before you QUIT . QUIT QUIT that's called QUITTING your a QUITTER!
