Goodness, what a month and a half it’s been. O_O FINALLY have Internet up at my place.+ Show Spoiler [Sigh.] +
[image loading]

Edit: PRAISE HEAVENS!! It finally kicked in: [image loading]
Otherwise, I would’ve posted sooner.

Successfully graduated, moved, and all that. I now reside in the middle of the hot desert of the southwestern U.S., where I’ve accepted a job as Geologist at a local copper mine. (there’re tons down here, lol) To my surprise and elation, the company blessed me with a brand-new, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house. Only for me.

I really don’t need this much space. ._.

Ah well. I’ll just use it as “stewardly” and fully as possible. However, it’d be easier to do such if I were more apt to throw house parties, lol.

Enough jabber. Time for the good stuff.

My desk space.

The “dream PC” I’ve always wanted to invest in is off to the bottom-left. Pretty plain looking, don't worry; you're not missing much.

Specs: (I’m not even half-sure what I wrote here... but that’s what the packaging tells me ._.)

LG 24EN33TW 24” LCD monitor
Antec 300 Versatile Mini Tower (mini?! whtf?!? X-D)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti graphics card
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard
OCZ 650W power supply
AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5 GHz 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor
1 TB hard drive

Merely mentioning my desire to purchase a killer PC to a couple of friends set them off on Newegg for an hour and presented me with what they found. With discounts, it was just over $1,000, minus the monitor which was a separate $150 purchase. I swear, I didn’t ask them at all, haha! They tell me they do this in their free time, and their knowledge really showed off here. I couldn't have done this without their help.

And in case the computer ever bores me one day (bahaha, no), I have plenty else to entertain myself with.

All A few of the books I never quite read through in college.

I wish I pushed myself harder to read more. I used to read books with voracity as a child (slow voracity, lol, but I would consistently open a new tome after I finished one). Then, I guess I got a more readily available access to the Internet and that got dropped. Like my housework, it’s never as difficult or time-consuming to simply pick up a book, read a little, then set it down as I always imagine it to be. Probably only laziness on my part, lol.

Oh look! Here’re some more. (textbooks)

Meh. I’ll get to ‘em someday. -.-’

In the meantime, I’ve got a metric frick-ton-bunch of Steam games waiting for me to try, so I imagine I’ll be spending a lot of my free time on there playing the games I invested in last year before getting this desktop. When I’m not working at the mine, I’ll be home eating or sleeping; usually too tired to want to do other work in my free time, so I’ll likely save most stuff for whatever days I have off. I don’t know them yet because the geologists switch off of different halves of the week. Once I know my schedule, I’ll be able to plan my life a ton better.

Stuff wanting to get done:
- Written works: “Iron Soldier,” “Absolutes,” “Trailblazer,” “as-yet-unnamed fantasy idea set in Medieval-ish era”
- Compose symphony
- Get fitter
- Learn to cook more dishes
- dat armor
- “Graphics vs. Gameplay” blog

Oh blast. I also need to keep plugging away at the abridged series. Dang. ('¬_¬) Yeah, it’s mostly voiced, as in only requires mine and, hopefully, a friend of mine who’ll be in the general vicinity before they leave and go back to school. I can edit up to about episode 7 or 8, I think. Feel free to poke and prod me about it if I’m not progressing on that.

It’s a time of new beginnings for me, and I’m excited to delve into what the future might hold for me, depending on where I place my efforts. Here’s hoping the time is made the most of.

Shout-outs: + Show Spoiler +
The_Templar and Amazombie: ABL whiners.
Christ the Redeemer: dude, you never post on here. How am I supposed to keep up with someone who doesn’t keep up? X-D
Grobyc: for incepting the incredible idea of the ABL at all.
TomServo: no worries; we tight, brah.

Special for the blog: this is my view from the backyard, thanks to being on the end of a cul-de-sac. Evenings and nights would be perfectly epic outdoors if I didn't have to/choose to worry about scorpions crawling over me, hahaha!

Wow congratulations! I guess it's a bit isolated, but it's super cool that you actually get a 3bed, 2bath. Nice bachelor pad!

I take it you don't actually own the property, they're just giving it to you to live in while you work there etc? I totally skipped over the part where you mentioned you're a geologist and I was super surprised to gather you might be one after having seen your textbooks haha. How old are you, and where did you go to school, if you don't mind me asking? Anyway, that's really pretty sweet c:

e: oh derp, you just graduated, so something like 22?

No, the company owns all of it here, lol. That sounds bad, but they treat us pretty well. They need the skills I have to offer (I can look at rocks pretty good, according to them ). Town's no bigger than a couple thousand; I have to drive almost an hour to get to a Wal-Mart. X-D But it's a nice, close-knit community. Most would hate it, but I kinda like it.

Oh yeah for sure. Sometimes it's nice to have a quiet place to yourself where you can just chill. And not having a wal-mart nearby could be a good thing depending on how you feel about it :3

Hehe, I think you forgot to list your cpu in your specs.

I'm jelly of your first house, it sounds/looks kind of nice. You know, I bet there isn't that much going on in your town, but you might be able to make a bit of money by renting your rooms to people, unless that's against your company's rules (it probably is). I bet your company is docking some of your pay rather unnecessarily to pay for that big house.

Also, I'm sure you'd be a great dwarf fortress player.

Derp. Thank you, I'll add that. AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5 GHz 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor.

They're not. Well, they are, but it's very, very little. It's mind-bogglingly cheap for its size, and I guarantee you it's 'cause of the location. I live in the middle of flipping nowhere, man. Young 20-somethings like myself aren't attracted to this area unless the pay is super good or there are other incentives, like stupidly-inexpensive housing, lol.

Whaaaaaat the fuck, that's amazing.

Could you by any chance rent out some of the rooms to people to supplement your income or something? Or is that not allowed? I would totally do something like that, esp. if I were living by myself in a 3BR, 2BA house ...

Doubt it. I could ask, but they'll likely say no. Besides, it's incredibly inexpensive as it is (one day at the mine = one month's rent; no, I'm not kidding). I like living on my own but... not with so much extra space. ._.

Yeah, man ... I'd feel weird in a 2BR apartment all by myself, but a 3BR/2BA is crazy. And that pay rate is crazy as well; it sounds like you can practically live in the apartment for the rest of your life depending on how long you're hired, lol.

Southwestern US is really nice though, even if it's a bit deserted. You should definitely go wandering around though in a good pair of shoes. I spent a few weeks camping out in the New Mexico/Arizona area, and it's fantastic at night. Desert life is really interesting too, so if you have some free time you should read up on the flora and fauna in the area.

That's what I'm afraid of. Scorpions give me the creeps and mountain lions make me think twice about camping out here. O_O

In all seriousness, I've considered it. I've camped in both those states for either field camp or Scouts; would love the chance to do so again! Biggest problem will be recruiting enough folks to go with me, haha.

See? There's too much to do inside or outside the house. I don't know how people get bored here, lol.

Economic geology, yea! So, your job is to determine where there would be copper ore deposits or what exactly?
Also, 3-bedroom, 2-bath house is amazing too.

Sort of. It's more akin to being a human check for the lab, which samples all the holes instead of select ones like us. Mapping the interior of the mine and predicting new ore bodies are secondary, longer-term objectives.

Sometimes, yeah, lol. The most crowded room is the master bedroom, but there's still tons of space left over. I don't know what I'm gonna do with it. X-D

Hopefully you're reasonably close to the UofA or some other big university. That is one thing i overlooked picking my first job (location/social-life). But that's a sweet setup you got going and living in a house is great - you'll know exactly what you want for your first house!

With all that space you should invest in a projector and play in SC2 on a 150" screen lol
