Since the events of WCS NA qualifier, its become publicly apparent that the CN scene (or CN/TW) has become extremely skilled at Starcraft 2 HOTS. Their success felt very inevitable to me, especially considering their locality to Korea (dat good ping!) & successful history in e-sports through other games. Sadly enough they had all those issues with MLG, but, this blog post isn't really about that.

Recently Sasquatch directed me to go watch a VOD of iGJim (iGjimcredible on twitch), who is ranked top 10 GM on Korea ladder. In the VOD he does reach rank 1 & 2 at different points. I'd highly suggest to anyone interested in watching FPView of EXTREMELY clean build orders and mechanics to tune in to his Vods. I've actually never been this impressed by watching the fpview of other sc2 Protoss players in the past. He plays beautifully.

Considering how good this guy is, I'm actually really excited to watch more players from the CN region. I don't really keep up to date with 'whos good' from that part of the world besides Macsed. Would anyone be able to direct me to more Protoss players from that region who stream?

The end.

Oh heres the build order I wrote up about one game. It's from Whirlwind PvZ at 1hr12 or so of his most recent VOD. Hopefully that's helpful for some people. It's the 1g fe -> 4gate sg opener into macro. I was streaming earlier and writing this up over an hour or so and then practicing it vs AI. It seems like quite an effective build. Unless you face 10 pool speedling maybe.. T_T

9 pylon
13 gw
15 dbl gas
16 pyl
18 core
19 zealot (cancel when 95%)
21 nexus
21 mcore (position for vision of all-ins)
23 pylon (at natural for wall-in)
23 warpgate
Resume probe probe production
When 23 pyl complete. start sentry.
Rally Main 1 gas, manual drag other.
32 supply 3gate wall-off (wait 300 min. then send probe)
Resume Probe Production
34 pylon
37 tech (stargate. Could be changed for other techs)
38 gas, probe, 39 gas. (@6:10, @6:20)
Resume Probe Production
42 pylon
~@7min halluc scout/w 1 phx.
44 - Tech finishes. 1 last cb on probes, remainder cb on tech if req (ex. If sg or blink etc)
48 pylon
52 forge @7:20
52 pylon
56 Robo @7:35
Warp-in 3 sentry => Total 5 sentry.
64 pylon
65 supply @8:10 start +1 attk
Around 65 supply. Your probe count should be ~45-47. Begin prioritizing warp-ins over probes. Warp-in then add 2 probes mb is best here.
68 supply @8:15 add 1 cannon
Robo build order: Obs, immo, Colossus
74 pylon
8:40 4 phx should be out.
~80 supply Start 5th phx (5 sentry,1z,mcore)
Warp-in 4 zealot ( 5 zealot, 5 sentry, 1mcore)
88 supply @920 colossus bay
Final (6th) phx done around 10min mark.
Variable expo time between 9:30-10:30. This game was 10:10-10:20ish
Begins warping in stalkers to use accumulated gas.
Proceeds to then scale to 6 gates within 1 minute of his expo timing (~11min) & adds +1 armor
Within 2 minutes of his expo timing (~12min), dbl gas should be operational & 2 sg should be started.
Jim then begins to cut warp-ins & transition to air production while maintaining a moderate colo count. (I Believe about 3.)
Within 3 minute of his expo timing (When dbl sg are producing VRs), start TC.
Once dbl sg production is started, gw warp-ins are cut.

Oh and hopefully this is blog-like enough. I haven't actually played this build order enough to actually make a post about it in TL strategy. The opener is quite weird for me. Mid game is quite easy though, just spam those vrs guys!

Try hard or don't try at all.

iGJim is really impressive. Would be cool if there was a Chinese team in the GSTL or Pro League. I wonder if China has any prominent Terran players?

His initial destruction of the qualifier open bracket for WCS NA was impressive, albeit through the losers. His play in challengers impressed me too, really hope they get some of the limelight soon, definitely worthy.

Some of the chinese and TW players are absolutely beastly, albeit a little cheesy.
I'm honestly surprised theres not more coverage of their scenes.

Comm is really good like emz said. The Chinese have several really great zergs and protosses, their terrans aren't always the ones we'd think of first. That said, XY is a monster .

I really like this build. I tend to have the most trouble with Mutas and Ultras. This build makes 6 Phoenix, and the 3 SG Void Ray production ought to do really well vs. Ultra switches.

I may have to start using it. I'm having so much knowledge dropped on me today
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)

agreed, I rarely watch protoss stream because I find them generally quite boring. all ins are just placing the buildings on time and basically the game is 10 mins preparation into 2 mins of deciding engagement. macro is also a bit more boring because toss tend to be the defensive side and it's more about whether toss has spread his army units well according to the number needed to defend.

but Jim has a very unique fun style, especially PvZ. his control and multi tasking makes protoss actually looks very fun to play with.

You should watch SaSe play toss then, maybe Sage too. Both of those guys have what you are talking about in a stream, though sometimes they just play standard macro-toss . I've seen both of them do some crazy micro stuff.

This triple-SG VR production seems really powerful. I like it! It should be doable off FFE into SG as well, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

He didn't forget!
Thanks for sharing, definitely seems like a solid build, which can find place in repertoaire of many Protoss players.
