Finally, we show that human foreskin fibroblast feeders are superior to the commonly used mouse embryonic fibroblast feeders in terms of their ability to prevent spontaneous differentiation after single-cell passaging. Importantly, the culture system is widely applicable and should therefore be of general use to facilitate reliable large-scale cultivation of hESCs, as well as their use in various experimental manipulations. Disclosure of potential conflicts of interest is found at the end of this article.

Abstract

...

CONCLUSIONS:
We used successfully human foreskin fibroblasts as feeder cells for derivation and continued undifferentiated growth of hES cells. These feeder cells are convenient for IVF units, because no fetal human tissues or tissue from operations are needed.

Ignoring your point (get it?), why would anyone want to buy someone else's foreskin!?

I know they use it for beauty products and skin grafts, as well as other research. Maybe someone with medical background can tell us more.

Not the whole thing, but it looks like tissue cultured cells taken from amputated foreskin. I don't know why these would be sought for research specifically, so hopefully someone will chime in with info.

I tried this once but the pressure inside of the foreskin becomes so great that after a few seconds it's impossible to piss.

It used to be super common. If you are really interested you should read this book

http://www.amazon.com/The-Immortal-Life-Henrietta-Lacks/dp/1400052181/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367438168&sr=8-1&keywords=HeLa

It's about the woman who had the first "immortal" cells. Basically you can keep replicating them over and over again. HeLa lines are one of the most common cancer cells used in research.

Where I live, the infant cutting rate is >86%, yet you'll never hear any discussion on the issue. People know nothing about it, yet do it by default. I've come to find out that this is common in America. I think national discussions are long overdue.

Tissue cultured cells I think? Not sure yet how they're distinctive ethically from the tissues they were derived from.

Basically, you take a culture of cells and have them multiply and grow indefinitely so that you have a steady source of them for whenever you need them

Thank you, I'm ignorant about this. Is it common to take cell lines from patients and sell for research?

Cell lines do not come from patients directly. Cells taken from patients are used to create cell lines, which, as has been said, is essentially a group of cells which divide indefinitely. Originally, the cells had to come from somewhere so yes, they took cells from patients; however, at this point in time, we have such large quantities of cell lines, we don't really need to take cells from patients anymore (at least, for the purpose of creating new cell lines). I mean, the entire point of creating these cell lines was so 1) we don't need to take cells from patients anymore (thus bypassing a ton of laws, paperwork, and overall general concern) and 2) there is a steady supply of all kinds of cell types ready to be used on demand as research requires.

Selling for money is honestly a necessity when you consider how much money it costs to maintain these cell lines as the cells are constantly dying and replicating infinitely, and they require specific, sterile conditions to be maintained properly. Of course, they're still making a business out of it but it's not like they're just taking cells from people for the purpose of selling as a lot of labor was put into creating and maintaining the cell lines after getting the original cells from people.
