Greetings,
I have been playing Starcraft 2 a lot lately. I'm looking for other people to play with. To make this more organized, I've started a clan named "Enemy Gate Is Down" on US SC2 Battle.net. I'm only ranked platinum, but I'm getting better, and want to find others who want to get better.
The name of the clan is from the book "Ender's Game" in which Ender helps his army understand the battleroom by suggesting the enemy's gate was "down" and not "south" as they had taught themselves to think. This was the beginning of how Ender helped himself and others become military geniuses.
Just reply here or hit me up on battle.net and we can play, and you can join the clan if you want. I really don't care if you do, and I'll practice with you anyway, but it may be easier to be all grouped up together.

If the gate is down does that mean it is open or closed?

Does it mean the enemy gate is non-functional so it can be both open and closed?

The battle room is in zero-G, attached to a space station. In the battle room, two armies of 40 kids have guns that shoot lazers and freeze opponents suits. If you shoot their elbow, their elbow is frozen. Because of the Zero-G, and the orientation of the battle room itself, when you entered, it felt like to Ender that the enemy's gate was "down" and not "south". This lead him to come up with ideas such as putting your feet in front of you frozen while shooting between your legs to hit as many enemies as possible with you taking much damage yourself.
It's funny that you say that though, because... + Show Spoiler +In the end of the book, Bean (one of Ender's soldiers while at the space station) while fighting the last REAL battle with the formics, Bean says "The enemy's gate is down" suggesting that the enemy's gate was actually down. It's also a reference to the enemy's gate in the battle room, so it was a pun before the last battle.

Does that mean the enemy's gate is willing to do the actions that were suggested?
Like this: "Hey, does the enemy's gate want to come party with us?" "Totally. The enemy's gate is down."

Oh I didn't catch the Ender's Game reference until you mentioned the battle room haha.... guess it's been too many years since I read it.

Does this mean that the enemy's gate consists of soft, fine, fluffy feathers that form the first covering of a young bird or an insulating layer below the contour feathers of an adult bird?

If two enemy gates meet each other after a long time. Does one enemy gate say whats up? or whats down?

This is a tough one, I would guess in polite conversation one gate would say whats down, to which the other gate would know to reply: "The enemy gate". However, it was is never specified what is up, so if a gate were to inquire about that, the conversation could get pretty awkward.

Wasn't this practically the tagline of the book? Haven't 95% of TLers read it? Haven't I seen half a dozen or more versions of Ender as usernames on this forum?

No, it wasn't the tagline of the book. No, in fact, most TLers haven't read it surprisingly. And I've only seen on Ender's Game reference name.
