Protoss ending:
Zertaul had quenched the nefarious blood thirst of the swarm, that had been his mission all along. With his knowledge of the Xel'Naga, he had ushered in an era of peace in the galaxy. Everyone had been reminded of their common ancestry, and thus old hatreds had lost their heat.
He was presented at the victory tribunal, in the protoss homeworld of Aiur. Present was all the Protoss leaders, judicators, executors and arbiters and anyone else who wished to attend.
The lead judicator spoke:
"You've done us all a great service, Zeratul. Honor to you." The judicator looked to Zeratul with a stern face. Zeratul looked back at him, knowing beforehand what was to come. "For this you shall be rewarded, in all the coming ages your name shall be revered as one of the best of us.". "But you have also strayed from our ways. You have slain many of our brethren who have been on the righteous path. Just as good deeds must be rewarded, ill deeds must be punished." "For your crimes as a rebel against our race, and the atrocities you've commited in exile..." "...your life is forfeit."
The hall erupts in an outraged gasp but it slowly calmed itself down. A young protoss warrior, close to Zeratul jumped out of his seat and ran to Zeratul. "You cannot do this!". Zeratul turned to the young warrior, put his hand on his shoulder and spoke to him softly. "This is who we are. We are the Protoss. We ultimately accept the consequences of our actions, be they good or bad. I was a rebel, but no more. This is the end of the path I have wandered for so long." "This is my reward."
The young warrior then understood the wisdom in Zertaul's words. In awe, he bowed his head and stepped away. The judicator stood up, motioned for Zeratul to move in to the center of the grand hall. Zeratul bowed down, lowering his neck. The judicator revealed a long psy blade. In a hushed tone that noone else heard, he said to Zeratul "En Taro Zeratul". A glimmer in Zeratul's eyes recognized, in full acceptance. The psy blade struck swiftly. As Zeratul was executed, the judicator shouted loud "EN TARO ZERATUL!". The whole council, and all the Protoss in attendance, stood in their seats and joined the chant "EN TARO ZERATUL!". They all understood the great significance of Zeratul's action. He had shown strength without limit, and set an example for all to follow. He had shown what it means to be Protoss.
Heart of the Swarm alternate ending
Kerrigan would betray Raynor. She is not a weak human. She is a ruthless conqueror, filled to the brim with ambition. All the terran forces had gathered in orbit around X, ready to begin the assault on the Dominion. Arcturus was down there, with no means of escape. Kerrigan invited Raynor to a private conversation. The rebel army could not be leaderless at this time, that she knew. The foolish Raynor had brought her back to humanity, and spared her when he had a chance to destroy only competend leader the swarm.
Kerrigan restrained Raynor and leaned in to speak with him. He expected a playful kiss but was surprised by the words she uttered.
"You've made a mistake, Raynor." she said, grabbing closer hold of him. "You do not have the strength to lead. You stopped fighting before the war was over, and convinced yourself that your love for me was something else than mere cowardice. You tried to do what was right but it ended up being all that which is wrong. I do not make such mistakes. For the swarm, the war never ends."
Kerrigan stabbed Raynor in the heart, ending his life. She went back to the bridge of the Hyperion and informs everyone that Raynor had been struck by cowardice and coupled with his alcoholism, had abandoned his loyal men and escaped the ship. She assumed leadership of the rebel army. Her intent was to let the rebel fleet and the Confederate forces destroy one another, for the greater good of the swarm.
