3rd tournament of the year this past weekend. Guess what?
:-D
Stories:
I was blessed with an easy pool and easier D.E.s, so that’s what I attribute this success to mostly. Kinda threw the semi-final bout to my arch-nemesis, but I can’t say I’m too disappointed; just getting to a spot to medal again was worth it.
Pres. got knocked out in the second round to our rival school’s pro (they guy he faced is an A in epee O.O) ‘cause he did poorly in pools for some strange reason. Was a spectacular match at least. Should have been the finals.
Yesterday was foil. Not my main weapon so I wasn’t expecting to do too well. I lost in the second round of D.E.s to a tiny left-handed girl. I swear, I knew how to beat her, but I just couldn’t manage to get that last point on her. At least 10 of my hits were off-target on her sleeve or helmet, and I thought my disengages were still pretty good, so I don’t know what was up there.... Then I learned that whenever I moved at all, she’d react by parrying down, so I could feint low and disengage high. Yeah, that worked, like, 5 times. X-D A combination of her having only a couple square inches of target area and my footwork failing me in the latter half of the bout let her win it at 14-15.
One tournament remaining. I promise: we’re gonna shine.
Other news: + Show Spoiler +Voicing is done for the first two episodes of “Abridgelion.” I knew I had some great voices at my disposal, but this team is more phenomenal than I could have dreamed. And they’re all pumped about doing this too, so morale is in the extreme positive at the moment. Now comes the long, tedious process of editing for the final product. It’ll be awhile before it’s posted, but it’ll get done.

SUCCESSSSS . Congratulations dude! How does foil differ from epee?

Epee is first hit wins, and the entire body is a viable target. In foil, you have to wear a lame over your jacket because only the torso is "on-target," so to speak. Plus, foil introduces "right of way," which is a complicated set of rules not applicable to epee. Basically, if you don't have right of way, you can't get a point, even if you hit your opponent on-target. For example, someone could attack you, nick your arm, and even if you counter-attacked dead center on their chest, it would be called off-target and the point would reset where action stopped.
Most importantly, (as I learned yesterday) foil also has more maintenance required for it. Can't tell you how many blade problems occurred throughout the day.... T_T

Nice! Foil is awesome. Always sucks to face a lefty though. Such an advantage!

Lol! I wish I could say it's a weapon that requires more finesse and dazzle, but at our level, it's reduced to a bunch of flailing of the arms and blade.

In epee, yes. But in foil, you can't nick their arm all day long. :-\

Good job at your competition, anyway! I'm fencing in the BWCFC for my school, so if anyone lurking happens to be there too...

Congrats! I'm loving fencing tournaments too. I just got my D in epee last weekend.

How's your flicking game?

I tried that a year or so ago, but I don't flick much anymore. Was never very consistent with it and I valued my tip control and form as more important. Plus, I don't have an epee that I'm confident is flexible enough to do that that often. (I actually did it more often last year when I was learning foil)
