this IS the counterculture. Chinese women weren't always materialistic money grubbing machines. They sorta just got exposed to capitalism too quickly. Kind of like kids these days that get exposed to hardcore porn when they're under 10. Will mess with your mind.

I mean, come on, is it really that hard? I'd want a girl who is funny, honest, curious, yadda yadda, but at the end of the day, I need one who is independent. I don't need a girl who's sole purpose in life is to settle down with a 250k/yr husband and raise 2.2 kids in a white picket fence. Fuck man, it's not even because I'm stingy--I'd be happy paying for her--I'd just much rather pay for her dreams than pay for her shopping expeditions. She wants to become a film director? Great, sign me up to underwrite her first shoot. She wants to be an artist? I'll rent her a studio. She wants to become a doctor? I'll even pitch in on her med school tuition. I don't want a girl who just wants me for the money and offers nothing but sex and food in return--it makes me feel like I'm engaged to a prostitute. I need independence because I need love, and love (to me) is made not when two people fuck but when two people put their dreams together to make something grand. But if she has no dreams, where do I even start?

Go date a grad student who's majoring in something useless outside of academia. That's by far the easiest way to find someone who has dreams and is independent. Anyone who goes into grad school for a PhD in something like medieval studies is going to be pretty non-materialistic (either in the sense that she'll already have lots of money and so doesn't care about it, or doesn't have lots of money and thinks sacrificing earning potential for 6+ years for a degree like medieval studies is worth it, which is pretty non-materialistic -- I know amazing girls in both categories). Whether or not she'll be funny or pretty is another matter altogether, and you'd probably have to move around with her depending on where she ends up getting hired, but hey, it depends on what you're willing to "sacrifice."

Anyways, just gonna say, women who make it in academia (you know, getting cited everywhere and properly respected, not 'cause of the fact she's a woman but because her work is amazing), in male-dominated fields, are fierce and brilliant and forceful.

For that, I'd date 20 to 26 year old American girls who majored in History, English, or Education. But you better be good looking and have the abs of a god. After all, they have to have SOME reason to love you. If it's not your wallet, it should be your six-pack and your to-die-for smile. Or if not that, then you should play the guitar really well and have dreams of becoming a rock star. Or a DJ. Something super ambitious and artistic but not yet realized in its potential.

By the time they're 30 though, most wake up, smell the doggy doo, and start sniffing around for wallets.

I graduated with a degree in creative writing. I've dated a lot of art/English majors. They're sweet, and their love is pure and innocent, and they're passionate and romantic and amazing. But after a year or so they disappear because they decided the most important thing in their life was to go take photographs of trains in the Midwest or that Kathmandu was where they would find the truth of their past lives. Another one decided she would become a pilot, then a forest ranger, then a sex buddy/muse for some Italian tailor living in London. You really have no idea what is going to jump out of the box from day to day, which is fun for a while, but then it just gives you grey hairs. I'd stick to the gold-diggers. At least you can understand them to a degree.

She actually fits all your personality requirements. Asian, female, very intellectually stimulating, thoughtful, speaks her mind, very independent; she worked 3-4 jobs once on top of all her classes without needing to, simply because she wanted to be able to buy her own shit and not waste her parents' money and likes being financially independent. Poli sci major interested in US-China relations, willing to do policy for a bit before moving back to academia. But alas, she's probably not your type from what I can tell, lol.
