A lot of times, I just try to come off as Asian American, but being Korean has huge benefits in Japan. I'll get more into it in my first blog entry

I am working on the assumption that the general public (citizens of Japan) lump Americans together regardless of affiliation, which may or may not be accurate. No change, but I live near Tokyo. So maybe I'm guessing it's hostile around Okinawa area. It also wasn't hostile when I was living in a rural part of Japan. Japanese people see mainly Black and White as American, so if you're Latino, Indian, Asian, then they will keep asking you where you are from. One time I even had my US passport during a party (long story), and this woman asked me if the passport was really mine. I had to open it up to show her it was really me.

I'll get more into it in my first blog entry I'd really like to hear more details on this. One of my parents' main concerns for me going to Japan besides the language barriers and such, is the treatment of Koreans by Japanese, but I'm fairly positive that attitudes are getting better, and it seems that my hunches are right. Looking forward to your first blog! Also, are you teaching under the JET program?
