You seem to want to run casually. You want to run around 3-4 miles a day for about 5 days a week (at least, that is what I think is good for a casual runner.) No matter how much you run, it is important that you find a quality pair of running shoes. Nike Frees are good shoes, and they may work for you. However, since all people run differently (forefront/heel strikers for example), there may be a better shoe for you to wear. For this reason, my advice is for you to go to a quality running store. Do some research in your area, and find a store that specializes in selling running shoes. This is super important. When you first start running, you will be prone to injury. If you are wearing the wrong type of shoe, it will only increase your risk of injury, and it will only make your training more difficult. If you go to a regular shoe store, they most likely will just sell you a random pair of running shoes, and they will probably not work for you. Also, don't worry too much about the price. Running is one of the cheapest sports out there, and the shoes you buy will last you for at least 4 to 5 months. A $100 price tag is pretty cheap for 5 months of training if you think about it. If you have any other running related questions, let me know.

The ones where I live are called "Roadrunner" and "Snail's Pace," and I'm sure there are many more. Buy the shoes and a pair of socks and you're good to go!

Best bet is to go to a shoe store and get fitted to a good shoe based upon your gate and individual bio-mechanics. Also agree on the price tag, don't mindlessly get fitted into super expensive shoes; but don't freak out about the price. Most shoes are good for 500 miles, and depending on the situation and your injury disposition you can sometimes get 2,000+ miles on your shoes (though this is generally not recommended).

Besides that, it's pretty good, you can pick how much cushion you want. I'm a big fan of the saucony kinvaras.

Everything else might hurt you and your feet big time after the first few runs. I've got some cheap Reebook shoes I bought ages ago and I kinda need new ones because holes are beginning to appear, so I'm probably not the best person to give advice, I can only recommend going to a store, if something like that still exists near you.
