Top Plays of NASL4 Finals
#3) SortOf vs viOLet
Game 1 - Daybreak
How many times have we watched a foreign player get ahead and then follow Artosis’ advice a little too closely? You know, when you’re ahead, get more ahead. Anyone remember IdrA vs Rain in the WCS? That game on Ohana where he was so far ahead and then went pure-Idra and almost let Rain back into the game? Classic mistake. Sometimes get more ahead means that you should just go and kill that fucker. You punched him once already? Put a bullet in his chest. None of this dancing around and expanding, let’s go. So when I saw SortOf just A-Move for viOLet’s throat I was so happy. Props to him for that killer instinct. Not the flashiest play I could’ve posted but a cool tactical move.
#2) Polt vs SortOf
Game 1 - Daybreak
Does anyone remember around February 2012 and the Asus ROG? When Polt and Stephano had that amazing rivalry and Polt showed us by having better positioning, he could beat Stephano’s heavy heavy ling style?
That tank line nom nom’d Stephano’s 3 prong attack
Guess what, Polt’s still up to his same old game ten months later. This game turned into a macro game and SortOf took four bases, spanning from 8 o’clock to the fourth at 11 o’clock. This is instead of taking the fourth base that is towards the center of the map. And as any good Zerg should, he’s got really good creep spread. Polt realized this and decided to use more great tactics. He pushed the fourth of Zerg with a small force. SortOf takes the bait and moved to intercept. Polt then darted forward toward the main/natural and dealt a vicious blow. Oh, and guess what, ten months later and Polt is still rocking marine/tank! Gotta love his consistency.
#1) HerO vs viOLet
Game 2 – Finals – Ohana
Finally, I’ve seen a moment where both players did something incredible. As I’ve written about before, HerO goes for Parting’s immortal all-in. Attempting to bypass ViOLet’s army, HerO attacks at the third. Of course, HerO made his name with his warp-prism drops so I shouldn’t have been surprised when I saw HerO showcase some incredible, next-level immortal/warp prism micro. I think at the end of the fight, he had a 26 hp/0 shield immortal with about forty-six kills? But instead of steamrolling ViOLet, HerO managed only to trade. ViOLet hugged his roaches and lings against HerO’s forces. He pulled off a three pronged attack and then macro-d well enough to overrun the deadly triple immortal threat. Zerg forced Protoss up the ramp to the fourth and forced Protoss into a poor engagement. All I can remember are a breathless Mr. Bitter and Rotterdam as they watched the fight unfold. The action swung back and forth so fast that they couldn’t keep up. And a side note, the game started with the best joke. When the intro started, the video would show a portion of the map and then the map name would hover above. Instead of Ohana, it said Family. The audience was treated to madly giggling Mr. Bitter. Really funny.
