I think the times we spent together eating were the most enjoyable. There was this Korean restaurant run by a friend of his mom near a LAN shop. We frequented both places. Although, we've never actually been to both places in the same day as the money we had as school boys never allowed us to do so. The first time we went to the Korean restaurant I was quite shy because I was the only Chinese there. Jae Hyun was confident and nonchalent in his own awkward-Korean way. I didn't know what to get, so he ordered a plate of Ja Jjang Myeon for each of us and a plate of fried chicken wings. The noodles were probably the best noodles I ever had, and the chicken was amazing, even though I'm pretty sure the Koreans don't have some secret method for frying chicken.
He taught me what the appetisers Korean food establishments usually gave - panchan (I think). He also taught me how to order Ja Jjang Myeon should I want to go back to the restaurant by myself - ja jjang myeon do ga joo say yo (I'm not sure how you spell it phonetically and I'm pretty that means 2 plates of noodles).
I miss him so much. I remember there was one time I thought there was no school in the morning because the class was supposed to go on a field trip to a cinema somewhere in Orchard Road, so I told him there wasn't school in the morning and we should eat lunch before we went to the cinema for "school". The teacher called our parents because she taught we were playing truant. That was really embarrassing. Anyway, we still decided that we would go to have Ja Jjang Myeon at our usual place that day. I decided to take the bus there and I got caught in the rain. I called him and he laughed because he didn't have an umbrella to come pick me from the bus stop. The day was not going well for the both of us. Luckily though, the rain was reduced to a drizzle soon enough and I was able to make it to the restaurant without getting too wet.
I got pushed open the doors and he was sitting at the table at corner eating this yellow disc of raddish or something while listening to his iPod. He played the guitar and he idolized Kotaro Oshio. We ordered the noodles. While eating we saw this cockroach and he started shouting "Oh fuck oh fuck!" in his Korean accent and jolted from his seat.
I'm not too sure where I was going with this, but I just thought I'd share a memory.
I miss you Jae, I wish you didn't have to leave
