This weekend i'm going to a class chess tournament in St louis. 3 days 6 rounds G/120 ( each player gets 120 minutes for the whole game)

I'm rated 1590 in the U1800 section. 3 months ago in U1800 in Indy i went 2-1-1 and was half a point from 500$ ( so fucking pissed). I'm looking for blood this weekend. In preparation I've been doing 50- 100 tactics problems a day, I've been going through GM games every day. I even take lessons from an awesome IM from Arizona who i just happen to be rooming with this weekend! I'm so pumped and nervous at the same time.

For the first tournament ever i'm going to play the openings I know best : the tarrasch and the dragon as black -- 1.e4 ( "best by test"-- Fischer ) as white. I play the most aggressive openings possible because, well why not! This tournament might be my chance to cement my self as a class B player ( 3 tiers from masters). This last month I've played some of the best correspondence games of my life. I've raised my blitz and bullet ratings a decent amount too. Now it is time to go replicate this all OTB at the St Louis chess club. AMG

May my mind be as peaceful as this song----

Whoa very nice. I've recently joined a chess club that has a round of rated swiss every Thursday. I drew against the #2 and #4 seeds in my first two games. Both were confused by my low rating. Maybe I should go to a cash tournament and steal some quick cash.
Do your best, God will do the rest.

I ended leaving in a hurry and forgot my adhd medicine (Not for cheating).

I finished poorly actually i had some good positions but had used too much time to get to them.. ie one game i had a very very winning position but we had only played 30 moves and only 2 sets of minors had been traded, and i had 15 minutes left from G/120 I blundred 2 games in time trouble, i gave someone a draw because i was unsure how to convert the advantage ( bishop + 2 pawns vs 4 pawns endings are the devils playground ), and round six i was tired frustrated and annoyed and made some very poor moves and resigned before move 20.

I ended with 1-2-3 and my worst tournament of the year -_-

Also golem i usually check those already; I'm in the rating range where most people no longer wantonly hang pieces about lol ( normally i know everyone misses something dumb once in a while)

I've been looking for local chess tournaments for months, never actually played in one. Also been looking for players/clubs. I've given up hope though, gonna have to make the drive to a larger city one day to play OTB.

So anyway I am jealous. Good luck to you.

I wonder if I should pick up chess again... I stopped when my little brother got better than me (I was about 1300 lol).

He's 2000+ now.

I'm ~2200 CFC and FIDE and it's still quite applicable for me! It's crazy the stuff people will miss sometimes.
