I was browsing TL, and I read Chef's blog about passion. That touched me on an emotional level. It made me realize that writing has the potential to evoke different emotional responses; my blogs so far have uh had an emotional response, but I wanted to try to change it up a bit so here goes.
There is something I like to call the "golden rule" that I try to live my life by.
"Leave people better than you found them"
The rule means that when you interact with people, you have the ability to leave them better than you found them. Here is an example of what I mean. Let's say you have a chance to have a conversation with a KESPA progamer such as Flash. After your interaction with him, you are left in shock and awe because of the words of wisdom that he bestowed upon you when you asked him about a TvZ question.
After the interaction with him, you feel enlightened and happier that you learned something new and got to meet someone as great as Flash, who has accomplished oh so much.
What if you had the chance to brighten up a person's day? to help them appreciate life and to help them feel good about themselves purely through something as simple as a 5 minute conversation?
Well, this is something that I try to strive for everyday; to touch a person's life and help make their day better. It can be something as simple as a genuine compliment or giving help where help is needed. Actually, it can be even simpler than a compliment. Just smiling at strangers can help make their day better or holding the door open for them. Even though the latter of them wouldn't have a major impact on someone's day, it still does make your day better.
If this doesn't make sense yet, look at this from a role reversal perspective. Let's say you are going through a hard day and have to study for a test, or you got fired from your job. You are feeling stressed and most likely awful as well. If only there was something significant in your day that made you feel better about yourself to help cope with the situation on hand.
Then, while you are wallowing in your problems and going about your day, a stranger smiles at you. Smiling is contagious, just like yawns are. You see someone yawn, a subconscious notion of yawning is put into your head and most likely within 5-10 minutes or even less you realize that you are about to yawn as well. Although you might not smile 5-10 minutes later, a subconscious notion of happiness is sent through because a smile is 99% of the time associated with happiness.
You also tend to remember people more when they smile at you, I mean cmon. Let's say your walking in a place where you don't know ANYONE like NYC. You walk down the street and unless you are a celeb or something, no one is going to pay any attention to who you are or what you are doing.
What smiling to a stranger does, or anything else, is that it is a gesture that you are paying attention to the other person. You genuinely went out of your way to do something for them that took a conscious effort on your part. I'm going to be a bit blunt here now. EVERYONE likes attention. The easiest example here is all the girl blogs here. How much better is it if someone you find attractive smiles at you or strikes up a conversation. All of a sudden, shit just got real and you're mood spikes up.
There is a lot more stuff I would like to add but that would mean branching off into different points and I will end up getting side tracked and writing a fucking thesis on my life values. Ill save it for the future

FUCK i meant to fucking change the blog title but it posted....ITS NOT DONE YET FUCK
|
I am just so curious here...

how does flash leave better than when you found him? you gained something, but i'm not so sure i can say the same for him.
|
lol nice title
But yeah, for sure, this is a great idea to have. Simple, like most great things in life are. Whatever you do, treat others how you'd like to be treated yourself, and leave others better than you found them.

5/5
Finally a blog that doesn't reek of freshman-ness:p
|
Supposedly given 5/5 ratings, still 2 stars overall. Is there something stopping him from having a higher rating?
|
I'm pretty sure a lot of people just like to drive by and 1-star his blogs. If you look on the rankings, he's the first place blogger when it comes to lowest rating =P
|
Holy shit, 2 stars average rating. You're moving up in this world, State. You will reach them 5 stars yet.

I initially read that as you had an argument with the wall, and then you punched your mom. How silly of me.

Punched a wall? Come on now... I liked this blog as it was more adult than your others but than you have to say you did that...
Edit for clarification: Saying you punched a wall to me either shows you lack emotional control or are trying to sound tough which is what I disapprove of.

The context of me punching the wall was a way to get full attention on what I was saying. It's complicated and Im leaving it at that. im sort of not happy that I even mentioned it, too late to delete it now.

The camp ground rule, Woody'sGamerTag is a big proponent of this in the youtube CoD scene. It's the basic rule that I follow in regard to pretty much everything.

dunno how i should feel about this blog... 3/5 for "not sure if gusta"

If you really want to make a difference you should leave people richer than when you met them.
